The "ultimate in road legal quad biking" is how the makers of the Venom Evil describe their creation. If its exclusive designer styling and the splash of shiny chrome on the front crash bars and speedos don't manage to turn heads, then perhaps the water-cooled 250cc engine, twin exhaust and sporty alloy wheels will.

Quads have been steadily growing in popularity on mainland Europe but are still a relatively rare sight on UK roads. But all that could change with the introduction of the road legal two-seater Venom from QuadBike Ltd. With its designer looks, stylish contouring, road-hugging 51 inch wide track, LED lighting and chrome alloy twin exhaust, attracting attention is almost guaranteed with this sexy four-wheeler.

Envious eyes will undoubtedly be drawn to the tasteful splattering of chrome on the grips, mirrors, retro-styled speedometers and crash bars to the front. Onlookers will positively salivate at the sight of the sporty low profile road tires gripping the exclusive 14 inch alloy wheels, the kind of design seen on so many concept renderings but rarely making it off the computer screen.

The safety conscious might also care to note another feature. The company's Paul Bullock told Gizmag, "The outer walls of the tyres are very tough polyurethane and can run at 0.5 psi, driven carefully a flat tyre would not come away from the rim and should get you to a repair shop."

The mechanically-minded may well appreciate the Loncin 4 stroke 249cc water-cooled engine, which develops 10.7Kw of power at 6500rpm and maximum torque of 17.5Nm/5000rpm. It offers a top speed of 55-60mph. There are four forward gears and one reverse, manual clutch, a powerful hydraulic disc braking system, double-A swing arm suspension with air shock absorbers in front and divided ballonet absorbers at the rear.

Petrol consumption is around 40 to 45 miles to the gallon and its 8 liter (1.75 UK gallons) fuel tank should get you about 80 miles before needing a fill up. The Venom is fully certified for registration throughout Europe and riders will need a standard car license to take it on the road.

QuadBike Ltd ship the basic bike from an ISO9001:2000 approved factory in China to the UK, where it's then treated to the unique design specifications you see here by Mitsubishi trained engineers. Each quad is then checked over by the company to ensure quality control.

Unlike the Swiss GG Quadster we featured last year, the Venom's price is not going to make spotting one in the wild a somewhat unlikely event. The on-the-road UK price is a wallet-friendly GBP3,245 - mainland Europeans are advised to contact the company for more information. Unfortunately for Stateside readers, the Venom doesn't currently have U.S. sales certification so you're unlikely to see one any time soon.

Just as well it has go fast looks.... it\'s be the only go fast thing about it. I\'d imagine it\'s a 250 for a reason though, slap a v-twin thou in there and nobody would let it on the roads. Much like a bloke here in NZ with his STI engined road going quad... too much biffo for the bureaucrats

Looks sweet... but 250cc?... did i miss something? Seems a shame to style something like that and then only put a 250 in it. Bang in a 750 guys! YEEOOO!!!


This thing looks great, but 45miles to the gallon from a 250 just wont cut it..sorry..no cigar unless they can get it up around 60mpg

With a top 55-60mph and 13ft lbs torque this is a glorified scooter.

It may be street legal in some places but not a chance in he-- in the US as anyone who orders one will find out.


Put an enclosed wind form for the passengers and you would get your 60 MPH and your safety.


And with a wind form you would get a speed approaching 75 MPH and 60 MPG

In the U.S. it would be classified as a \"car\" (having 4 wheels), and you would be subject to the morass of byzantine car-defined requirements, such as windshield wipers, lap and shoulder belts (!), bumpers of specific performance, fenders, etc., etc.


Ya, what \"heldmyw\" said!! That\'s the best definition of the stupid, outdated laws we Americans have put upon ourselves when it comes to automotive regulations! There should be a class of cars in America similar to the Kei-cars in Japan. But we need to protect people the \"supersavers\" will say. Come on people! We don\'t require all that extra crap for any two or three-wheelers! We who ride those types of vehicles know and accept the risks! I guess I, as an American, should be glad they haven\'t regulated two and three-wheelers out of existence, yet!

This message to member froginapot, you mentioned in your post some time ago which was something to do with increasing the speed of the Venom and you said try a Wind Form, could you explain what this means please, or was you taking the perverbial.

I have heard that you do something to the CDi, but I dont know what it is, would appreciate some help on this subject with reference to de-restricting it. Regards Mark


Most people assume that the USA does not have any street legal highway driven quads, but they make unfounded comments without doing any research first. You could simply google "street driven quads" or "street legal quads", and in 5 seconds you'd be on this page where you'd find the current offerings - http://reversetrike.com/quads.html

The GG Quad has been sold into multiple States in the USA as has the Hannigan. Many CanAm Spyder Reverse Trikes have been converted to Quads as have the GSXR1300's. Quite a few of these are registered in California, and no doubt legal in all 50 States. You simply have to find the proper category to put them in depending on your State. Homebuilt Motorcycle may work. Some States actually have a 4-wheel Motorcycle category for street driven vehicles.


at 250cc it's just a riced-up mobility scooter isn't it?

heldmyw - I think you're wrong on the classification of this as a "car" or "automobile" here in the U.S. The 3-wheel silly looking backwards tricycle "Can-Am Spyder" is licensed as a motorcycle even though it's a non-leaning "bike". I would think a 4-wheel, street-legal ATV would be licensed the same as you ride it like a bike or snowmobile with your legs wrapped around the body rather than sitting in a seat. Provided you're wearing a helmet, wipers wouldn't be a factor and seat belts would most definitely not be required. You wouldn't want to tumble down a hill strapped to one of those!

I hope they make their way to the states and are cheaper than $15,000 because it might make for a gasoline efficient ride around town without making you look like a European pansy driving some Smart Car or one of those God-awful enclosed tricycles they use over there. I'd like to hold on to some of my dignity.

You just know that somebody will want to bolt on some 26" wheels! The engine is a little weak also, it needs at least 650cc's.
