The end of Land Rover Defender production was initially scheduled for 2015, but the model got a stay of execution – for about a month. Land Rover rolled the very last Defender off production lines on Friday, putting an end to 68 years of Series/Defender production. It's not all bad news for Defender lovers, though; Land Rover's celebration of the event includes a new Defender Heritage program and a very thorough tour of great Defenders of the past. Volkswagen has introduced its version of a plug-in hybrid SUV at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The VW Tiguan GTE Active Concept combines a gasoline engine with two electric motors and all-wheel drive to create an SUV with a claimed fuel economy of 75 mpg (3 l/100 km) and a range of 580 miles (933 km).
Kia might not be known for making big, brash SUVs, but that's exactly what it's delivered at NAIAS 2016. The hybrid-electric all-wheel-drive Telluride concept looks kind of like a Bentley EXP 9 F crossed with a Chevy Suburban, and is significantly longer, wider and taller than the current Sorento SUV.
