Colossus: OCZ's 1TB solid state drive expected in stores this month

Has the death knell finally sounded for the hard disk drive? As HDD manufacturers wrestle each other for best market position a newcomer lurks in the shadows - the solid state drive (SSD) is becoming a beast to be reckoned with. Toshiba Launches Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ with 512GB SSD

May 15, 2009 Toshiba has announced a new top-of-the-range Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ," the world's first PC with an integrated 512GB SSD (Solid State Drive). The new model is available in two versions from today at Toshiba's on-line shop for the Japanese market. The Toshiba-developed 512GB SSD employs a 2-bit-per-cell multi-level NAND flash memory to realize, the world's largest capacity SSD, with four times the density of SSD integrated into currently available products. A new controller that realizes high-speed parallel processing with the multi-level NAND flash memory boosts data access speeds by approximately 230% for read (max. 230MB per sec) and 450% for write (maximum 180MB per sec), compared with the SSD integrated into current PCs. It also boosts data access speed by approximately 300% for read and 250% for write, compared to a hard disk drive. SSDs are free of mechanical structures such as a rotating disc, and ideal for integration into mobile notebook PCs, making them more resistant to vibration and shock. Read More

Super Talent 64GB SSD upgrade for Asus S101 Eee Netbook

Flash storage manufacturer Super Talent is now offering a 64GB Solid State Drive (SSD) specially designed as an upgrade for the Asus S101 Eee netbook PC. The Windows S101 netbook has just 16GB of local storage as standard, so the US$169 upgrade 64 GB SSD can quadruple the storage capacity inside a few minutes, while offering ballistic read and write speeds of 90/55 MB/sec respectively. SanDisk announces world's fastest SSD

Hard drives have been the bottleneck in modern PC performance for some time now, and while SSD technology has led to new levels of performance, the price point has left a lot to be desired. Enter SanDisk, with a new range of SSDs based on multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory. SanDisk claims their G3 SSDs are twice as fast as prior SSDs and over five times as fast as the fastest 7200RPM HDD, with sequential performance of 200MB/s read and 140MB/s write. The price? Sandisk offers next generation of SSD drives without bulkly enclosures

During CES 2009 SanDisk Corporation unveiled its next-generation of flash memory-based solid-state drives (SSD) to support the netbook market - SanDisk pSSD. The new SanDisk pSSD-P2 and SanDisk pSSD-S2 SSDs have the same interface and functionality of traditional SSDs, but without the bulky packaging that's used to emulate 1.8" and 2.5" magnetic drives.
