Kogan launches 10-inch Agora netbook series in Australia

Kogan Technologies today launched the Agora netbook series, featuring the Agora and the Agora Pro. The 1.6GHz Atom based netbooks are the cheapest available in Australia, starting at AUD$499. Both models come preloaded with the gOS operating system, a variant of Ubuntu Linux, but in an interesting move, Kogan's support team is offering to guide customers through the process of installing other supported operating systems including Windows XP and Windows 7. Lenovo Pocket Yoga to take on the VAIO P

Lenovo has posted a number of images of a new netbook they call Pocket Yoga on their photo feed, sans press release, tech specs, or...anything. Dell adds a Mini 10 to the Inspiron Mini line-up

Dell has announced a 10-inch model to join it's Mini line-up, the Inspiron Mini 10. Weighing in at 2.86 lbs (1.3 kgs), the Mini 10 features a multi-touch trackpad with gesture support, an HDMI output, and a 92% keyboard that solves two common netbook keyboard issues by adding a properly sized right Shift key, and not putting a Function key where you expect the left Control key to be. Acer has announced an all-new 10” Aspire One netbook, complete with Windows XP, integrated Bluetooth , 802.11b/g, Acer Signal Up technology and it can also be specified with a choice of WiMAX or 3G wireless technologies. The VAIO P: Sony's answer to the netbook

Sony has set out to prove that form and function aren't mutually exclusive with their answer to the netbook, the VAIO P series. Starting with a tiny form factor and a 1.33GHz Intel Atom CPU, and adding a 128GB SSD, built-in 3G connectivity, 802.11n wireless, and a GPS that doesn't require an active Internet connection (among other things) this is one seriously portable, connected device. During CES 2009 SanDisk Corporation unveiled its next-generation of flash memory-based solid-state drives (SSD) to support the netbook market - SanDisk pSSD. The new SanDisk pSSD-P2 and SanDisk pSSD-S2 SSDs have the same interface and functionality of traditional SSDs, but without the bulky packaging that's used to emulate 1.8" and 2.5" magnetic drives. You can’t always judge a book by its cover and the Netbook-sized Magpul FMG9 is about as deceptive as they come. It looks like an industrial torch or a portable radio, and will fit in a girl’s handbag or the back pocket of a pair of jeans. One click later, the spring-assisted deployment mechanism snaps and you have a sub machine gun ready to fire. The innocuous FMG acronym stands for Folding Machine Gun and its small size and lightweight polymer casing belie its firepower - folded it holds 31 9x19 mm NATO rounds in a Glock magazine and although the prototype was only semi-automatic, a fully automatic version will almost certainly be available if production goes ahead. Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 Reviewed

Netbooks are typically a "me too!" product, created by manufacturers who think their Intel Atom-based, small form factor notebook is going to stand out from the countless others, despite little to no attention being paid to the areas that could differentiate their product from the rest. Following on from its release of the education focused Mini-Note PC earlier this year, and adding to the burgeoning list of netbook offerings now on the shelves, HP's new HP Mini 1000 manages to retain an (almost) full size laptop keyboard in a unit that's less than 1-inch thick and weighs only 2.25 lb. The Mini 1000 is powered by an Intel Atom N270 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) processor and is available with either a 8.9" or 10.2" widescreen display (1,024 x 600). Dell has released a big brother for its Inspiron Mini 9. Perhaps aiming for the customer that thinks a 9 or 10-inch display is too small, but a full size laptop is overkill for their needs, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 features a bigger-than-your-average-Netbook 12.1-inch WXGA display, and runs on Netbook standard Intel Atom CPU. The hard drives are of the traditional platter variety in 60GB or 80GB sizes instead of the SSD drives found in the Mini 9 and the Mini 12 comes with 1GB of RAM, a built-in webcam and Windows Vista Home Basic – although XP and Ubuntu variants are due by year’s end. April 4, 2008 Intel Corporation has shown the second-generation design of its classmate PC - a low-cost, Internet-oriented, child-sized laptop computing platform designed to take the punishment dished-out in school environments and broaden access for the 95% of children worldwide who are currently deprived of the benefits offered by such technology. Dubbed a "Netbook", the classmate PC blueprint was unveiled this week at the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai and is aimed at giving manufacturers the freedom to tailor laptop models for a variety of education needs.
