Local Motors' LM3D Swim set to be the world's first 3D-printed electric production car

Arizona-based Local Motors is aiming to become the first to bring a 3D-printed electric car to market. The LM3D Swim is a demonstration of the speed at which additive manufacture can bring ideas into reality, as well as showing off Local Motors' production ethos of "form over function." The functional chassis of the car is able to be "skinned" with any number of body concepts to give it all sorts of visual character – and since the car is 3D-printed, one-off body shapes are not a problem.

Local Motors to commission a dozen custom 3D-printed hot rods

Local Motors added a little flair to the International Manufacturing Technology Show this past September, by live 3D-printing its Strati car. The car used a small electric powertrain from the Renault Twizy. Now, Local Motors is about to commission a sure-to-be-more-powerful vehicle – 12 of them actually. The company repeated its live printing effort at this year's SEMA Show and opened up a new contest that will see 12 tuners customize an all-new 3D-printed car. Read More

Strati wins 3D printed car challenge

The first ever 3D Printed Car Design Challenge has been run and won with Strati, a design by Michele Anoé of Italy, chosen from a field of over 200 entries submitted by contestants from more than 30 countries. As well as winning a $5000 cash prize for his efforts from the organizers, Local Motors, Michele's concept will provide the most influence for a full-size 3D prototype to be printed at the International Manufacturing Technology Show this September in Chicago, Illinois. Local Motors Racer motorcycle gives the Harley a new look

The lion's share of open field at last month's Overland Expo was dedicated to camping trucks, trailers and RVs, but there were also a few other interesting vehicles sprinkled throughout. Electric-powered Verrado puts trike drifting on the level

Since originating in New Zealand in 2009, the sport of trike drifting has slowly but surely spread to hilly regions all around the globe. From the United States to Puerto Rico, adrenaline junkies are mounting customized three-wheeled machines to drift and spin their way along switchbacks and steep downhill descents.
