What we can tell you is that it's a tiny, leather-bound touchscreen PC with an odd, ultra-wide aspect ratio that can be folded over to create a tablet. And it might just fit in your pocket. Lenovo's W700ds has an ingeniously concealed second screen built into the lid that "pops out" via a spring loaded mechanism. There's also a laundry list of features including a built in webcam, fingerprint scanner, 5 USB ports, a FireWire port, a DisplayLink port, both VGA and DVI graphics, big bright 17" 1920x1200 display, 2 ExpressCard slots, an SD card reader, and couple of features that are rather specific to high end photography and graphics design. How to install Windows 7 on an IdeaPad S10 (or other netbook) without a DVD drive

So you want to install the Windows 7 beta on your IdeaPad S10, or another netbook without an optical drive. A Google search will turn up hundreds of guides, but we've read nearly all of them, and they either assume you have access to a Windows Vista machine, are needlessly complicated, or just plain don't work. This guide might not have pretty pictures guiding you along the way, and you'll need to deal with a command prompt, but hey - it works. Read More

Lenovo has announced the the IdeaPad Y650, one of the thinnest and lightest 16-inch laptops available at just 5.6 pounds. The new Y650 was one of three new additions to the IdeaPad laptop lineup alongside the 15.6-inch Y550, and the 14-inch Y450. The IdeaCentre A600 is Lenovo’s first all-in-one desktop and has the same levels of style and presence as Apple’s iMac. The A600 is very slim, features a 21.5-inch frameless screen, an integrated speaker system including a bass sub-woofer and Dolby Home Theatre audio certification, an optional Blu-ray player, a digital TV tuner and an optional 4-in-1 remote controller with air mouse functionality (presumably accelerometer-based ), enabling users to control on-screen objects according to the movement of the remote. It can also be used as a cordless VOIP handset, a media center/TV remote, and Microsoft Vista Media Center users can use it to operate DVDs, movies and TV. There’s also VeriFace facial recognition technology which allows users to use their face as their log-on password.The IdeaCentre A600 all-in-one desktop will be available in April from US$1000. Lenovo has been forced to announce the ThinkPad W700ds ahead of the planned CES announcement after a page on the IBM website went live early - and if there's ever been a laptop worthy of being referred to as "the hamburger with the lot", it's this one. Lenovo ThinkPad gets anti-theft Remote Disable feature

Lenovo is introducing a new security feature for ThinkPad notebooks which allows users to remotely disable their PC via SMS. Developed in conjunction with Phoenix Technologies, the Constant Secure Remote Disable feature is effectively a kill switch that works by creating a mobile phone text command such as “lockdown now PC” or “PC shut off” and sending it to the computer's onboard broadband service. If the PC is turned off when the command is sent, it's automatically disabled the next time it registers on the network. Read More

May 9, 2007 Lenovo today announced two new ThinkPad notebooks PCs - the ThinkPad T61 14.1-inch widescreen notebook and the ThinkPad R61 14.1-inch widescreen notebook. Field Tested: Lenovo updates the Z series ThinkPad with the Z61t, Z61m, and Z61p

September 10, 2006 Last November, we had a chance to test the new Z60t and Z60m Thinkpads. These devices were the first of Lenovo's 60 series products, and were the first to offer integrated EVDO service from Verizon in the US. They were also the first Thinkpads built to a new set of internal standards for docking station and power supplies that are compatible across the entire 60 generation of products. The Z60 was followed by the T60 and X60 Thinkpads in February, which added Intel's current generation of dual core processors, but unfortunately the Z60 was released too early to get these new gems, and an expected upgrade to the specs of the Z60 didn't materialize when we thought it would. The new Z61t and Z61m laptops refresh their Z60 forbearers, and the Z61p is a new wide screen workstation model based upon the Z61m chassis. Read More

Lenovo shows concept PCs behind closed doors

February 7, 2006 A few weeks ago as CES 2006 was drawing to a close, Gizmag's Dave Weinstein and Rob Walker were invited to a closed door meeting with some of Lenovo's top designers. From time to time we get a chance to peek into the future and get a glimpse at the gear we may possibly be using a year (or five) from now, and the preview we received from Lenovo was one of the most promising demonstrations we've seen in a very long time. A large part of Apple's recent string of successes can be attributed to their outstanding industrial design. It's becoming much harder to differentiate product on a strict technology basis (note the CES trend of over-integration). We think we're witnessing a resurgence in the importance of good design. As a result of Lenovo's purchase of IBM's PC division (and that group's continued focus on ID), we think we'll soon see Lenovo established as a premier consumer brand. Unfortunately, since some of the device prototypes demonstrated were top secret, we were told that we could write about them, but couldn't take pictures.
