Since 1950, automobile aficionados have flocked to Pebble Beach to celebrate the world's rarest and most collectible cars. This weekend’s 2014 show saw not only the gathering of Tatras and rare Ferrari Testarossas but also the latest in concept and production cars. Gizmag was on hand to capture it all.
Earlier this year, the ultra-powerful, Lotus-based Hennessey Venom GT made good on world record-level speeds Hennessey had been promising since before its 2010 introduction. The car set an unofficial world speed record
of close 270.49 mph. Lesser men might be content to take a long summer vacation after such a feat, but John Hennessey is busy preparing an even more powerful Venom to set a new record … and fend off any competition from the likes of Bugatti
Last month, the Hennessey Performance (HPE) Venom GT skidded into the record books
when it hit over 270 mph at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. To commemorate this event, as well as snatching a Guinness World Record by doing 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) in 13.63 seconds, HPE is rolling out its very limited-run World’s Fastest Edition (WFE) Venom GT with a special livery.
The Bugatti Veyron SuperSport caught the world’s attention in 2010 when it set the record for the world's fastest production car
, but that crown may now have been passed on. Hennessey Performance announced on Monday that its Venom GT
hit 270.49 mph (435.31 km/h) at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Driven by former Michelin tire test engineer, race driver, and Director of Miller Motorsport Brian Smith, the time for the Venom GT was independently verified, but has yet to be officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is one of the most rugged, off-road-capable pickup trucks out there. In fact, in a showdown of four of the most off-road-savvy pickups on Earth, PickupTrucks.com named the 2012 F-150 SVT Raptor its winner, lauding it for one of the more dominant contest performances of 2012. Hennessey
domesticates the four-door SuperCrew cab Raptor just a little, transforming it into the VelociRaptor SUV.
After having its world record for fastest production car thrown into question by a competitor and put under review by Guinness, Bugatti is back on top. Its record set back in 2010
is official all over again after a reconfirmation by Guinness.
After the pomp and civility of the New York Auto Show, it’s nice for automotive manufacturers to take a break, get some air, break 265 mph, hit the spa, etc. And so it would be that on a bleak Californian airstrip, that some brave individual in a very much modified machine would hurtle himself down an airforce grade runway to a speed of 265.7 mph (426.7 km/h), making the Hennessey Venom GT
the fastest production car on the planet.
Behind its dramatically restyled front fascia, the 2014 Corvette Stingray
packs a new 450-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine. Not surprisingly, that engine isn't quite powerful enough for some gear-heads. Well before the new 'Vette makes its way into showrooms later this year, Hennessey Performance is teasing potential buyers with a version that puts out more than double the horsepower.
American tuning house Hennessey Performance Engineering is crowing after its own production car, the Hennessey Venom GT
, set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest accelerating production car. To claim the record, the vehicle completed two runs in opposite directions within one hour of each other that averaged out to a time of 13.63 seconds to go from 0-300 km/h (186.4 mph).
Talk about American muscle … Thumbing its nose at hippie ideals like fuel efficiency, the 6.2-litre Cadillac CTS-V is a monster muscle car in stock form, putting out 556 horsepower and 551 foot-pounds of torque straight out of the crate. But for those for whom too much is never enough, aftermarket tuner Hennessey Performance has released details of a souped-up "CTS-VR 1200" that brings together every performance upgrade in the Hennessey catalogue to produce an eye-watering 1,226 horsepower and 1,109 foot-pounds of torque. Handy if you need to tow a trailer… Just watch this thing light up on the dyno rollers.
