Fujitsu announces winners of Mobile Phone design competition

In May of this year, Fujitsu called on the imagination of the public to help the company come up with some mobile designs for the future. Offering budding designers the choice of being realistically practical or wildly imaginative, the company received around 2000 entries over the Summer and has just announced the winners at the CEATEC technology trade show in Japan. Leica's 37.5 megapixel S2 professional DSLR camera due in October

It was first seen in September 2008 at the Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany. Now manufacturer Leica has announced that its compact top end professional S2 DSLR camera system will be available from October. The S2 sports an impressive 37.5 megapixel (MP) pixel count, has a 30 by 45mm sensor, a super fast Maestro image processor, an OLED top panel information display and a newly developed precision autofocus. There's a whole bunch of new lenses too. But before you rush to pre-order, you'd better sit down, take a deep breath and prepare yourself because the recommended retail price is a whopping UK£15,996 for the camera body alone (with a US price set at US$22,995). Fujitsu advances color e-paper technology

October 10, 2007 Fujitsu has displayed the latest incarnation of its electronic paper products at CEATEC in Japan. Having previously unveiled flexible color e-paper, this year the company has changed the form factor into an "e-reader" - a prototype content browser the size of an A5 sheet of paper that’s lightweight, extremely portable and features a high-contrast, easy to read 4,096 color display with very long (up to 50 hours) battery life due to its ability to hold an image once it is displayed without drawing on any power. Fujitsu and Advantest JV to create 65nm process semiconductor prototypes using Electron Beam Direct Lithography as a new development environment

September 15, 2006 Fujitsu and Advantest today announced plans to establish a joint venture to create prototype semiconductors by using electron beam direct lithography, a technology that combines 65 nanometer (nm) and 45nm semiconductor process technologies with electron beam exposure systems. Using technologies it develops, in fiscal 2007 the joint venture plans to provide customers with 65nm process prototype services (shuttle services) as a new development environment, and make the environment suitable for 45nm process technologies in the future. Fujitsu phone and PC concepts unveiled in Milan

April 5, 2006 The Good Design Award 50 Years exhibition is currently on display at La Triennale di Milano (Milan, Italy) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Japan's foremost design awards, the Good Design Awards (also called the G-Mark system). One of the highlights of the exhibition which features 20 of Japan’s best known industrial design brand names, is a display of concept phones and computers from Fujitsu. It’s strange that we should be given such an insight into the direction of a Japanese computer company through a design exhibition in Milan, but the thrust of the message is that Fujitsu is clearly focussing on clever design to offer smaller yet fully functional devices. Two “slider” mobile phones are on display, one which incorporates a complete keyboard and large web interface screen and the other, known as a Multi Slider, offers differing functionality depending on the direction of the slide. There’s also an ultramobile PC with a clever fold-up keyboard and a beautiful flexible PC which can be set up as a tablet computer, a laptop, or a desktop computer. Read More

February 2, 2006 Fujitsu has announced that its high-end model PRIMEPOWER 2500 server recently achieved a new world record in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb2005), with a performance of 1,157,619 business operations per second. SPECjbb2005 is a benchmark test developed by SPEC to evaluate the performance of servers running Java-based applications. It simulates the processing of actual wholesale industry business tasks, such as ordering, shipping, receipts and payment processing, inventory management and customer data management. Fujitsu releases HOAP-3 programmable Linux robot

July 10, 2005 Fujitsu has shown the third iteration of its Humanoid for Open Architecture Platform (HOAP) series of robots which first went on sale to research institutions and universities four years ago. As you’d expect, the HOAP-3 model is way better than HOAP-2 after four years of development and the new model has advanced image recognition capabilities and the ability to not only communicate but also to display emotion – a feature that seems high on the agenda for Japanese robotics manufacturers. Fujitsu Triples Charging Capacity of Fuel Cells for Mobile Phones

Tokyo, July 6, 2005 Fujitsu today announced its co-development with NTT DoCoMo of a prototype high-capacity micro fuel cell and the prototype development of an external recharger for FOMA handsets. For the prototype micro fuel cell device, the concentration of the methanol fuel used was raised from 30%, the concentration used for the companies' previous fuel cells, to a remarkably higher concentration of over 99%. This enables the prototype device to charge up to three FOMA handset batteries with just 18 cc of methanol. Read More

Fujitsu Develops Human Task Support Robot

Fujitsu Laboratories and Fujitsu Frontech have announced their joint development of a service robot that can provide support for various services in offices and commercial facilities. The newly developed robot features functions that enable it to provide such services as greeting and escorting guests onto elevators, operating the elevators, moving parcels using a cart, and security patrolling of buildings at night. Fujitsu Frontech Limited will commercialise the robot, with sales scheduled to begin in June 2005.
