And the world’s thinnest laptop for this month is…. the new Dell Adamo! Yes folks we have a new claimant to the world’s thinnest laptop title with dimensions of 13.03 x 9.5 x 0.65-inches and Dell pointing out that, at its thickest point, the new Adamo is thinner than any other laptop. Taking a leaf out of Apple’s book, the new laptops are chassis milled from a single piece of aluminum featuring precision detailing and a scalloped backlit keyboard and feature a high definition edge-to-edge glass display. Of course when thin is in, traditional platter HDD’s are out, so the Adamo laptops sport a 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD) as standard, as well as Draft-Wireless N, Bluetooth 2.1m 2 USB ports, a USB/eSATA combo port, Display Port, RJ-45 port and up to 5+ hours of battery life based on preliminary lab testing. Dell has released a big brother for its Inspiron Mini 9. Perhaps aiming for the customer that thinks a 9 or 10-inch display is too small, but a full size laptop is overkill for their needs, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 features a bigger-than-your-average-Netbook 12.1-inch WXGA display, and runs on Netbook standard Intel Atom CPU. The hard drives are of the traditional platter variety in 60GB or 80GB sizes instead of the SSD drives found in the Mini 9 and the Mini 12 comes with 1GB of RAM, a built-in webcam and Windows Vista Home Basic – although XP and Ubuntu variants are due by year’s end. May 26, 2008 Dell is the first computer supplier to ship server and storage systems using high performance 450GB SAS disk drives based on Hitachi's new Ultrastar 15K450. The 3.5-inch, 15,000 RPM drives deliver 450GB of storage and a 30 percent improvement generation-to-generation in sequential throughput. They also have 50 percent more available capacity than their 300GB predecessors, but similar low power characteristics. The drive features average seek times as low as 3.3 milliseconds and the fast rotational speeds reduce average latency time to 2 milliseconds. The drives are available with either 3Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or 4Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces. Read More

Backed by PC industry names including NVIDIA, Dell, HP, Alienware, CoolerMaster and Thermaltake, ESA specifies an information protocol that system components can use to communicate with each other to adjust operating parameters, and relay important system information back to the user. HP joins Apple and Dell with 30-inch computer screen

Dell releases 20-Inch Widescreen Entertainment Laptop

June 1, 2006 One of the most intriguing products of the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show was Dell’s BIG SCREEN mobile concept which caused some interesting comment due to its expected weight. Yesterday, Dell unveiled its portable 20-inch widescreen entertainment PC, the XPS M2010. The system's multimedia features include a 20.1-inch, high-definition widescreen monitor, eight speakers plus a subwoofer, a detachable, full-sized Bluetooth wireless keyboard and gyroscope-enabled remote, a webcam and a slot-load DVD drive. The articulating hinges supporting the display double as a system handle when the system is closed. The XPS M2010 starts at US$3,500, and is available immediately and weighs in at 18.3 pounds. The Dell 3007WFP 30-inch LCD - and then there were two...

January 15, 2006 At long last, there’s a competitor to Apple’s 30-inch Cinema HD Display – Dell released its Widescreen UltraSharp 3007WFP flat-panel LCD monitor at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, effectively lowering the price of one of these delectable, productivity-enhancing beasties from US$2499 to US$2199. Both screens require a dual link DVI video card to drive them, and neither of them are all that cheap, but consider the Return On Investment offered by a larger screen – Apple’s research shows productivity is linked to the amount of screen real-estate while Microsoft’s research shows that two screens offer more productivity than one screen, so why not supercharge your productivity with two of these screens. It's a simple business decision - paying US$2500 for a permanent 10% productivity increase or US$5000 for better than 20% is a no brainer for any professional who spends more than a few hours a day in front of a workstation.
