Dell Adamo XPS combines slender profile with smart design

Dell has bettered its wafer-thin Adamo laptop launched in March with the announcement of the 0.4-inch (9.99mm) thin Adamo XPS. Apart from the attention that the label of World's thinnest laptop brings, the XPS has some very appealing design qualities that are nothing to do with its slender profile or 3.2 pound weight. Rather than the conventional hinge, the full-size keyboard folds into the display in such a way that it's raised at the top when it's opened to provide enhanced cooling and there's also a capacitive touch latch mechanism which allows you to pop the unit open with the swipe of a finger. Spurred on by the release of Windows 7, the number of screens on the market offering the benefits of multi-touch functionality has jumped significantly in recent times. Acer, HP and Toshiba have released multi-touch notebooks and we've also seen multi-touch creep into the desktop and all-in-one PC arenas. Dell has had multi-touch PCs in its sights for a while and recently released the rugged Latitude multi-touch tablet. Dell Latitude XT2 XFR - small, tough and multi-touch capable

Dell continues to expand its Latitude range by revealing a 12.1-inch rugged convertible tablet PC with a multi-touch display - the Latitude XT2 XFR. The company says this PC is designed to meet the unique and demanding needs of customers in the military, police, border patrol, field service organizations, factory fulfilment and first responders. At only 1.5 inches thick (38.1mm) this rugged 12.1-inch convertible tablet weighs 5.4lbs (2.45kg) and adds to Dell’s Rugged Mobility Solution offering that includes the fully rugged Latitude E6400 XFR and the semi-rugged Latitude E6400 ATG laptops. Dell's Latitude Z: world’s first laptop with wireless docking and inductive charging

Dell's latest addition to its Latitude series of laptops, the Latitude Z, has a number of ‘firsts’ the company is hoping will convince consumers to choose it over a plethora of other brands and models. Dell says its Latitude Z is the world's first 16-inch laptop that is less than an inch thick and also the first laptop with wireless docking and inductive charging (wireless power - no more cords to trip over or lose). The inclusion of Dell’s EdgeTouch allows users to operate commonly used applications and media controls through a touch interface on the screen’s bezel, while Dell’s Latitude ON technology delivers instant, interactive access to email, the Web, contacts, attachments and calendars. Dell has released a photo printer that uses the same Zero-ink technology found in the Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Instant Mobile Photo Printer and PoGo Instant Digital Camera. Dell’s Wasabi PZ310 Ultramobile Photo Printer holds up to 12 sheets of adhesive-backed ZINK Paper, and can connect to a digital camera via PictBridge or wirelessly to a camera phone or computer via Bluetooth. And the world’s thinnest laptop for this month is…. the new Dell Adamo! Yes folks we have a new claimant to the world’s thinnest laptop title with dimensions of 13.03 x 9.5 x 0.65-inches and Dell pointing out that, at its thickest point, the new Adamo is thinner than any other laptop. Taking a leaf out of Apple’s book, the new laptops are chassis milled from a single piece of aluminum featuring precision detailing and a scalloped backlit keyboard and feature a high definition edge-to-edge glass display. Dell has released a big brother for its Inspiron Mini 9. Perhaps aiming for the customer that thinks a 9 or 10-inch display is too small, but a full size laptop is overkill for their needs, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 features a bigger-than-your-average-Netbook 12.1-inch WXGA display, and runs on Netbook standard Intel Atom CPU. The hard drives are of the traditional platter variety in 60GB or 80GB sizes instead of the SSD drives found in the Mini 9 and the Mini 12 comes with 1GB of RAM, a built-in webcam and Windows Vista Home Basic – although XP and Ubuntu variants are due by year’s end. Reconnect computer recycling program expanded

Dell and Goodwill Industries have added Virginia to the list of States offering their “Reconnect” drop-off program for the recycling of unwanted computers. May 26, 2008 Dell is the first computer supplier to ship server and storage systems using high performance 450GB SAS disk drives based on Hitachi's new Ultrastar 15K450. The 3.5-inch, 15,000 RPM drives deliver 450GB of storage and a 30 percent improvement generation-to-generation in sequential throughput. They also have 50 percent more available capacity than their 300GB predecessors, but similar low power characteristics. The drive features average seek times as low as 3.3 milliseconds and the fast rotational speeds reduce average latency time to 2 milliseconds. The drives are available with either 3Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or 4Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces. Read More
