The Land Rover Defender recently made its grand exit after 68 years, leaving the world without the hardest core Land Rover 4x4 for the time being. Happily for Defender fans, there are still aftermarket shops churning out awesome Defender creations, like the Kahn Design 6x6 Pick Up. Across the Atlantic, East Coast Defender (ECD) has a different idea of how to make a better Defender: add a touch of American V8 muscle to create the 430-hp Beast.
The annual SEMA Show kicked off on Tuesday in Las Vegas. Here's a gorgeous project of passion worthy of ten minutes of your time. Colorado's Magpul is a company best known for its firearm magazines and accessories. But when unique American sportsbike brand Buell was closed down by Harley-Davidson in 2009, a team of Magpul designers and engineers snapped up 47 of Buell's finest creations – the 1125 series sportsbikes – at runout prices, and set about production of a very limited run of extremely sexy custom bikes. Keeping the 1125's excellent engine, frame and wheels, which the Ronin team considered to be the chief technical standouts of the Buell bikes, they created a girder-forked, naked beast with a wicked-looking front radiator, some 54 lbs lighter than the originals.Read More

Here's eight different attempts from designers around the world.Read More

Going back for it would've meant several hours extra driving time, so using a little quick thinking and a huge amount of luck he pulled up to the U.S. border holding an iPad showing a full-sized image of his passport that he had taken five years previous and had saved to a Dropbox folder. After what must have been a nerve-racking five minutes while border officials looked over the document, Reisch was amazingly allowed through into Vermont, even receiving a "Happy Holidays" from the border officer for the trouble. Overkill. The word's origins are military in nature, describing a situation where one country has enough nuclear weapons to destroy significantly more of another nation that it would ever need to in order to win a war. But the term applies perfectly to today's sportsbike market, where any numpty with a license and a check book can waltz into a dealership and wobble out on a thoroughbred race machine that can break the speed limit at mid-revs in first gear and accelerate faster than any car on the road. Of course, for some people that's just not enough, bless their souls – but to create a vehicle that stands out from the pack in such a time of plenty, you have to take things to the absolute extreme. And it's a long time since we saw anything quite as extreme as the NCR M16, a bike that takes one of the most expensive roadbikes ever built, throws almost all of it in the bin and replaces it with the most exotic materials on the planet. Gentlemen, start your drooling.Read More
