For the last two years, the US$2.25 million Nokia Sensing X Challenge has lured entrants from around the globe to submit groundbreaking technologies that improve access to health care. A panel of experts have awarded this year's grand prize to Massachusetts-based DNA Medical Institute (DMI), whose hand-held device is capable of diagnosing ailments in minutes, using only a single drop of blood.  Read More

The year 2020 marks 250 years since Ludwig van Beethoven was born, with 2027 marking the 200th anniversary of his death. To honor these milestones, a plan is afoot to build a new concert hall in the composer's home town of Bonn, Germany. Following an international architectural competition, three potential designs, by David Chipperfield Architects, kadawittfeldarchitektur, and Valentiny hvp architects, remain.  Read More

The Future Hunter Gatherer concept is one of the six finalists remaining in the Electrolux...

When it opened for entries in February of this year, the Electrolux Design Lab competition challenged students from around the world to come up with innovative appliance concepts for the homes of the future. "Creating Healthy Homes" was the theme and after previously announcing the 35 semi-finalists, the organizers have now whittled over 1,700 entrants down to six finalists, who will look to wow a jury with their designs in France next month.  Read More
