With big changes likely in the global transport infrastructure, the race is on to create the missing link – the smallest, lightest man-packable form of motorized transport yet known. Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW and Nissan have all shown vehicles in this area, but none have yet hit the market. The best-of-breed is currently the Yikebike
and it announced today that it has further extended its lead, lightening its US$4,000 Carbon
model from 11.5 kg to 11.2 kg and extending its range to 15 km (9.3 miles). There's also now a choice of Yikebikes with two cheaper versions at 12.7 kg ($3,000) and 14 kg ($2000).

According to the London Cycling Campaign (LCC), though only five percent of all motor traffic in the UK's capital are lorries (trucks), they account for half of all cycling deaths in the Greater London area. Last November, the group launched its Safer Lorries, Safer Cycling

The rate at which children grow, especially from being new-born to the age of around six-years-old, is scary. One day they're a helpless ball of flesh and bones, the next they're walking, talking, and starting school. This means that new parents have to continually buy new things for their child that may only last them a matter of months. While a bicycle may not be top of the agenda at such a young age, for a child to learn to ride one means buying several different models over the course of just a few years as they first learn, and then master, the art. Which is what led Noelia Vallano Alvaro to design B'kid: one bike designed to last a child from the age of two right through to the age of six.
Bikes and trikes really do come in all shapes and sizes these days, with a new design unveiled seemingly every other day. A perfect illustration of this is the HP Velotechnik Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec, which combines a tall tire in back, two smaller tires in front, springs all around, a chassis derived from the automotive industry, a fast pedelec drivetrain, and the ability to fold up and roll out. The speedy recumbent trike recently won a Eurobike Award for a design that aims at a fast, smooth, comfortable and versatile ride.
