Built for road-tripping cyclists, bicycle commuters and anyone that might be worried about having to hitchhike home with a broken chain, the TrunkMonkey represents an easier, more portable style of bicycle rack. Its designers call it the first portable, inflatable, universal bike carrier in the world. When not in use, it rolls up like a camping mattress, making it a ready travel companion.
With bicycle theft such a common crime, anyone who regularly cycles in the city needs to both own a good bike lock and choose wisely when it comes to parking. We've seen lots of innovative approaches to both bike locks – such as the Saddle Lock
– and bike racks, such as the Cyclepod
and the Next Gen
. Loop, from Ottawa-based design consultancy The Federal Inc., is another attempt at improving on the latter.
The Noomad, from Spanish outfit Polo De Innovacion Garaia, is designed to transform a traditional bicycle into a stable, three-wheeled workhorse equipped for hauling groceries, luggage, babies and more. The Noomad is essentially a simple metal panel connected to dual 18- or 20-inch wheels that swap in for your front bicycle wheel. To ensure a nimbler ride, the Noomad's wheels are connected to a tilting system that allows the rider to lean through corners.

does it with its supercar styling and hot red paint; and Opel now does it with an innovative accessory - a bike carrier that's integrated into the bumper. Opel claims it's the only car maker to offer a fully integrated bicycle carrier that is always on board.
If you’ve ever tried to install a rooftop or rear-end bike rack on your car, then you’ll know what a hassle it can be. You have to put the thing together, carefully line everything up, run the hooks under your roofline or hatch, then try to tighten it all down simultaneously so everything doesn’t get pulled to one side. According to the folks at SeaSucker, however, their
racks attach and come off in seconds, thanks to an attachment system that involves nothing but rubber cups.
Westfalia-Automotive has created a towbar-mounted bicycle rack that, in a matter of seconds, converts into an extra boot by attaching a cleverly-designed waterproof lid. Portilo – the bike rack – is built to hold two bicycles in stands, rather than hang them from the frame (which is becoming increasingly difficult these days, given the variation in frame sizes between brands). The PortiloBox fits the Portilo easily with no tools needed to secure it. It’s only small but, if you just need that little bit of extra space, it’s ideal.
