At Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, HTC announced its new flagship handset, the HTC One X. Like the Optimus 4X HD from LG also unveiled at MWC 2012, the phone will be HTC's first quad-core handset. The One X comes sporting a NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4.7-inch 1,280 x 720 HD display. With an 8-megapixel rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel forward-facing camera, the phone is capable of capturing high-resolution still photos simultaneously while shooting 1080p video that can also be edited directly on the smartphone. Since the release of the G-Slate and Optimus Pad last year, tablet offerings from LG have been pretty thin on the ground. Now the company has announced it will be releasing its first LTE-capable tablet in its homeland next week. The Optimus Pad LTE is powered by a Qualcomm 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and comes running Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). It also features the same True HD IPS technology that debuted on LG's Optimus LTE smartphone but with the 1280 x 720 pixel resolution now spread over 8.9-inches worth of display. Read More

With the Xperia ion, Sony has joined the throng of phone-makers clamoring to announce LTE handsets at CES 2012. Sony's PlayStation certified Android device features a 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, with both front and rear cameras capable of shooting HD video, at 720p and 1080p respectively. The rear camera has a 12-megapixel sensor which, budding Cartier-Bressons take note, can take shots within 1.5 seconds of leaving standby mode. Read More

Among the electronic goodies unveiled today at CES 2012 in Las Vegas was LG’s new 4G LTE Verizon smartphone, the Spectrum. The phone’s big selling feature is its 1280 x 720-pixel high-definition display – it is billed as “the first smartphone for Verizon Wireless to feature a 4.5-inch True HD In-Plane Switching (IPS) display, the same display technology used in premium LG HD televisions.” Read More

Electronics giant LG has announced the Korean launch of what is claimed to be the highest resolution IPS (in-plane switching) display available on any smartphone. The Optimus LTE has a 4.5-inch, 329 pixels per inch resolution "True HD IPS" screen which is said to offer crisp, clear visuals and render colors in their most natural tones. Australians are getting their first taste of LTE (long-term evolution) mobile network speed. Telecommunications provider Telstra launched its USB 4G mobile broadband modem today with the promise of coverage in capital city CBDs and 30 regional and metropolitan centers with download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps and upload speeds of 1Mbps to 10Mbps. Having already launched in many world markets, Samsung has now unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S II models that are destined for U.S. carriers from September. The company’s flagship smartphone will come in three slightly different flavors through Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile, with all running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with Samsung’s TouchWiz 4.0 UI and packing a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and Super AMOLED Plus touch screen display in a slim form factor. Although Samsung has revealed an LTE version is on the way, the three phones initially on offer will use HSPA+ (AT&T and T-Mobile) and WiMAX (Sprint) for 4G connectivity. Read More
