Designed totally inside Lexus by Lexus designers, this sleek electric pedal assist bicycle is among the many hidden gems to be unearthed at the 41st Tokyo motor show. Sporting carbon fiber everything – including the battery cover – the Lexus HB Concept has a 2WD system that uses a smaller electric motor on the front wheel and a larger pedal assist motor at the crank. Production-ready? I don't think so. No adjustments whatsoever for seat or handlebar position (other than fore-aft on the saddle rails). The single-position cowhorn handlebar won't be comfortable for more than a few minutes. Why Dual Control levers when it doesn't even use derailleurs? I don't think Dual Control works with internal gear hubs like Nexus. Like most concept vehicles, it's mostly smoke and mirrors.

Just where would one race this bike? The motors make it illegal. And it looks about as uncomfortable a bike as ever built.

Racing Bike? I don't think so. If performance enhancing drugs are outlawed in bicycle racing I don't think they will look too kindly on electric assist.
