Katadyn Vario Water Filter

Katadyn Vario Water Filter

The Vario from Swiss water purification specialists Katadyn provides a versatile solution to the age old problem of avoiding stomach bugs while on the trail. Capable of producing up to two liters of filtered water per minute, the Vario gives the user a choice between two or three different filtration stages - one for when speed is required and and a second for extending cartridge life.

The double action pumping Vario consists of three filter levels - a 0.3 micron glass fiber filter that doesn't require cleaning needed, a1.0 micron ceramic pre-filter and an active charcoal for eliminating odours. The preliminary ceramic filter is by-passed in the "fast mode" and engaged when dealing with more heavily contaminated sources to extend the life of the glass fiber filter.

Measuring 7.5 x 4.0 " (19 x 10 cm) and weighing 15 oz (425 g), the Vario is compatible with most standard outdoor bottles and hydration bladders. Depending on the water quality, the glass fiber filter has a capacity of approximately 530 gal ( 2000 liters) and the carbon filter can handle 106 gal (400 liters) before replacements are needed.

The Katadyn Vario Water Filter is available for around USD$80.
