October 15, 2008 Iomega appears to have hit the mark in terms of both usability and affordability with its StorCenter ix2 network storage solution. The "dictionary sized" unit offers home and small-business users Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and up to two terabytes of storage on two high-performance SATA-II drives, which can be configured a simple four-click set-up. It also includes print server capability, security camera support, Bluetooth file uploads and a built in media server so it can be used as a home multimedia hub.

The ix2 has two USB ports for connecting printers, additional hard drives or other devices, with a USB Bluetooth dongle facilitating direct wireless uploads. It supports PC, Mac® and Linux® clients and storage and security features from parent company EMC include Retrospect® backup software, RSA BSAFE virus encryption technology, plus RAID 1 to protect against data loss in case of disk failure.

The Iomega StorCenter™ ix2 will hit shelves at the end of October and is available in 1TB and 2TB which cost USD$299.99 and USD$479.99 respectively.
