Iomega appears to have hit the mark in terms of both usability and affordability with its StorCenter ix2 network storage solution. The "dictionary sized" unit offers home and small-business users Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and up to two terabytes of storage on two high-performance SATA-II drives, which can be configured a simple four-click set-up. It also includes print server capability, security camera support, Bluetooth file uploads and a built in media server so it can be used as a home multimedia hub.

The ix2 has two USB ports for connecting printers, additional hard drives or other devices, with a USB Bluetooth dongle facilitating direct wireless uploads. It supports PC, Mac® and Linux® clients and storage and security features from parent company EMC include Retrospect® backup software, RSA BSAFE virus encryption technology, plus RAID 1 to protect against data loss in case of disk failure.

The Iomega StorCenter™ ix2 will hit shelves at the end of October and is available in 1TB and 2TB which cost USD$299.99 and USD$479.99 respectively.
