The Specialty Equipment Markets Association (SEMA) Show opens in Las Vegas today and one of the stars of the show will undoubtedly be the extensively modified 2006 Scion xB on the Visteon stand which incorporates several new and pretty important technologies in not just automotive entertainment but mobile entertainment in general. Visteon is using the Scion to showcase the first transportable HD Radio receiver (pictured with docking stations in the car and the home), an in-vehicle portable entertainment system that plays movies, music, Nintendo Game Boy Advance video games and a Wireless Charging Concept (main picture), that allows users to charge handheld devices such as an iPod, cellular phone or PDA and does not interfere with the operation of other electronics.

HD Jump

The first HD Radio technology designed for use in both the vehicle and at home. Visteon's HD Jump is a transportable receiver that docks into a cradle in the vehicle. An optional home kit allows the receiver to also be used with a home stereo. The HD Jump offers the full spectrum of HD Radio features, including program associated data, such as real-time song title, artist and album information, as well as multicasting, where available. The clarity of HD Radio technology allows FM stations to be enjoyed with CD quality sound and boosts AM quality up to that of FM sound. More than 1,000 radio stations now broadcast HD Radio signals in the U.S. with over 400 offering new formats on HD2 channels.

Dockable Entertainment featuring Game Boy Advance

This system combines the performance and versatility of Visteon's first portable in- vehicle entertainment system with a video game platform that has sold nearly 300 million games worldwide. It can be undocked in a matter of seconds for use at home, in another vehicle or nearly any another location.

The Visteon Scion xB technology demonstration vehicle

Visteon brought dozens of cutting-edge mobile electronics, automotive interior and underhood technologies to the Scion engineering and fabrication project, with the result being one of the world’s most advanced and functional mobile platforms for work and play.

Among the innovative Visteon technologies integrated into the vehicle are Dockable Entertainment featuring Game Boy Advance; the company’s new Wireless Charging Concept for portable electronic devices; HD Jump, the world’s first transportable HD Radio receiver; Portable Navigation System; the Visteon Hands-Free Phone Kit featuring Bluetooth wireless technology; Ultra-Violet LED Instrument Cluster; and Boston Acoustics Aftermarket Premium Audio System upgrade. The vehicle also features a Visteon Charge

Air Cooler and Hydrocarbon Trap.
