Friday July 25, 2003Network provider Sprint has announced the availability of the SH-G1000 handheld in the US where it will operate over the wireless PCS Network. Introduced at the International CES in January, the "converged device" from Hitachi combines Pocket PC functionality with a rotating camera, built-in QWERTY keyboard and wireless phone.The list of features on the multi-functional Hitachi G1000 include 32 MB of memory, 400 MHz Processor, rotating VGA-quality digital camera, SD expansion slot with multimedia card capabilities, voice- controlled dialling, speakerphone, and an embedded GPS chip for future location-based services.The built-in phone acts as a modem for surfing the web and email via the 10cm TFT colour screen.The integrated QWERTY keyboard is the primary input method, but the G1000 also supports multiple input methods including on-screen keyboard.A replaceable lithium ion battery provides 2.5 hours of continuous talk time and seven days of standby time and the G1000 is sold with USB cradle, AC adapter, AC cable, travel charger and soft case.The Hitachi G1000 handheld costs US$650.
