New Fujitsu Mini Notebook gets built-in GPS

A netbook that combines full-featured PC functionality with voice-prompted GPS navigation, a 16-inch desktop replacement notebook that incorporates a second 4-inch touch screen and a 2.2 pound convertible tablet PC are among the latest mobile computing offerings from Fujitsu.

Running windows Vista and powered by an Intel Atom Z530 processor, the LifeBook U820 mini notebook features a 5.6-inch, convertible Crystal View wide XGA screen that facilitates touch, pen or QWERTY keyboard input and includes a zoom utility for easier viewing. The unit also integrates support for 1080p HD video decode, Bluetooth and wireless LAN, a 1.3 mega-pixel (640x480) webcam plus a fingerprint sensor and BIOS lock along with a Kensington lock slot to deter would be thieves.

The 1.32 pound U820 also offers up to 7.5 hours of battery life and has 1 GB DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM memory and up to a 120 GB hard drive or a up to 64GB with the solid state drive option. The major selling point however is the built-in GPS receiver and turn-by-turn navigation system from Garmin that comes preloaded with maps of the U.S. and Canada and eliminates the need to carry a separate GPS unit when on the road.

Pricing for the LifeBook U820 mini notebook starts at USD$1,049.

The LifeBook N7010 desktop replacement notebook stands out from the pack by offering the convenience of a second 4-inch "Touch Zone" touch screen - and as long-time converts to running dual screens, we can see the attraction of this feature which allows applications to be dragged straight into the Touch Zone when multi-tasking.

Key specs of the N7010 include Intel Core2 Duo P8400 processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 cache, 1066GHz FSB), ATI Radeon HD 3470 graphics card with 256MB GDDR3 dedicated graphics memory, Blu-ray ROM optical drive, integrated HMDI port, dedicated Memory Stick/SD card slot, E-Sata port, Bluetooth, WiFi and a gesture-enabled touchpad. The integrated webcam is the same as its smaller stablemate (1.3 mega-pixels) and a removable dust-filter, spill-resistant keyboard and shock mount hard drive are included for added protection when you're mobile.

The LifeBook N7010 is priced at USD $1,499 for a fixed configuration.

Rounding-off the company's new offerings is the lightweight (2.2 pound) LifeBook P1630 convertible tablet PC which features dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 Ultra Low Voltage Processor, Intel WiFi Link 5300, 8.9-inch WXGA touch-sensitive display, biometric protection, a hard-wearing magnesium-alloy exterior and a high-capacity battery option that promises up to 6.15 hours run-time. Pricing starts at USD$2,179.
