Trunk-like Le Tronc Creux shelter sleeps nine in the French countryside

French design studio Bruit du Frigo has drawn inspiration from fallen down tree trunks, which often provide shelter for small animals, to create an eco-shelter for humans in the forests of Bordeaux. Dubbed Le Tronc Creux, which means "The Hollow Trunk," the low impact shelter is roughly the same size as a shipping container and can easily be transported by truck to different locations when required.Read More

Italian design firm launches its first "mini yacht"

Italian design studio Lazzarini recently presented its first "mini yacht" during the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show. The Jet Capsule is a compact water craft measuring 7.5 meters (24.6 ft) long and 3.5 meters (11.5ft) wide. Shipping container conversion provides clean water in developing countries

Joining forces with engineering firm Deka R&D, Coca-Cola has launched a project which will see the transformation of approximately 2,000 shipping containers into water purifying stations. Dubbed Ekocenter, the shipping container module has been designed to provide isolated and developing communities with facilities to produce safe drinking water, as well as access to wireless internet technology and solar powered charging.Read More

Finnish shipping company gets floating HQ

Finnish icebreaker company Arctia Shipping Ltd has moved its headquarters closer to the waters, so close in fact that its new office building floats in the Helsinki harbor. Designed by K2S Architects, the 950 square meter (10,225 sq ft) floating office was built in a shipping yard in the west of Finland before being towed to its new home at Meriksarmi Pier.Read More
