March 4, 2009 Wondering what is going on at home or in the office while you are away? Wireless video specialist Avaak has just launched its Vue™ personal video network which provides real-time remote video viewing via the Internet using small, power-efficient cameras.
Vue is a network of diminutive, battery-powered wireless cameras whose “peel and stick” magnetic mounts allow them to be placed almost anywhere. Using a proprietary ultra-low power wireless network technology to maximize battery life, they can transmit an estimated one million frames on a single battery. The cameras have a range of up to 300 feet, which can be easily extended with optional repeaters.
The core technology, which has been in use by the military and homeland security professionals for the last four years, will now provide consumers with a new level of connectivity, simplicity, and peace of mind while they are away from their homes or businesses,” said Gioia Messinger founder and chief executive officer at Avaak. Avaak further advises that unlike traditional systems or today’s IP cameras, the Vue personal video network can be installed in seconds, with no software to load, cords to connect or home networks to configure.
With cameras in place, consumers simply log onto their private VueZone online account to begin viewing. From VueZone, users can access and manage feeds from every camera in their home. The feeds can also be recorded, scheduled and even shared with family or friends. The VueZone site features a Flash user interface, which functions and feels like a standalone application with drag-and-drop capabilities says Avaak. Since the system is browser based, consumers can view their home or business from any laptop or Flash-enabled device.
- The ability to upload and share video or still images to popular social networking sites such as Flickr and YouTube
- The ability to quickly mount Vue cameras almost anywhere with ease of repositioning
- The ability to easily add more cameras to the network; the system comes with two cameras and additional cameras can be purchased separately for $99 USD
- Two gigabytes of storage online
- One year battery life under normal use
Retailing at USD$299, the Vue personal video network will begin shipping in early summer 2009. Pre-orders can be placed now on Avaak’s Web site.
