According to a new report, Amazon is prepping a TV set-top box for later this year

Amazon doesn’t make many hardware products. But the devices it has focused on – ahem, Kindle – have done extremely well. According to a new report, we’ll soon be able to add another Amazon gizmo to that list, as the company is reportedly working on a TV set top box to rival Roku and Apple TV.  Read More

Sony has announced the pricing for its 55- and 65-inch 4K TVs

If the US$24,999 price tag of Sony's flagship 84-inch 4K TV was a little rich for your blood, then the company's upcoming 55- and 65-inch models might just pique your interest. The $4,999 and $6,999 respective price tags are still fairly hefty, but the company is working to make the prospect of early 4K adoption that little bit more appealing by launching its own 4K media player, the FMP-X1, alongside the new sets.  Read More

Panasonic's flagship 1080p ZT60 series plasmas hit shelves next month

Despite the rise and rise of the LED flat screen TV, the humble Plasma is still a favored choice for home movie fans and color reproduction devotees – often with good reason. Panasonic’s 2013 offerings in this space are headed-up by the flagship ZT60 series, which the company put to task in a completely blacked-out booth alongside its predecessors at the Consumer Electronics Show.  Read More

LG's 100-inch Laser TV works like a regular projector but over a much shorter distance

LG has demonstrated a new Laser TV at CES which uses an Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector to display an image on a 100-inch screen at a distance of less than two feet. Despite the close distance and large size, the system delivers a full 1080p image with a 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and LG hopes the set-up will eliminate some of the issues posed by typical home theater projectors that require a much larger space to function.  Read More

The augmented reality-enhanced TARDIS model (Photo: Greg Kumparak)

Doctor Who. He'd be nothing but an incredibly brainy (if strangely dressed) bloke with two hearts and an attitude if not for his TARDIS. The TARDIS is a combination time machine and spacecraft that can poke into virtually any nook or cranny in the entire history of the Universe. Aside from the marvelous transport capabilities, the most notable thing about the TARDIS is that "It's bigger on the inside!" – a running gag throughout the show. Now, Greg Kumparak has produced an augmented reality model of the TARDIS that produces a remarkable illusion, making the TARDIS indeed appear to be bigger on the inside.  Read More

LG has added Natural Language Recognition software to its Magic Remote

At first glance, it may seem that the guy sat in front of the television is having a heated argument with his TV remote, but closer inspection will probably reveal that he's just trying to get the voice recognition feature to recognize his dialect. Folks similarly afflicted are about to be offered a helping hand from LG, in the shape of its newly updated Magic Remote with enhanced language recognition capabilities.  Read More

The original Batmobile is being auctioned off next month (Photo: Helga Esteb / Shutterstoc...

In the past few years, not only has the Corvette-like Batmobile from Batman Returns been put up for auction, but a jet-powered replica of that same style of Batmobile has also been created. A drivable copy of the Dark Knight-era Tumbler has likewise been built, along with a working replica of the associated Bat Pod motorcycle. For many people, however, the only “true” Batmobile is the original version driven by Adam West in the 1960s TV series – and it’s about to be put on the auction block, for the first time ever.  Read More
