If you want to haul gear on your bicycle, but you don’t want to buy a whole dedicated cargo bike, then you might like Israeli industrial designer Ofir Yadan’s S-cargo carrier. The two-wheeled device replaces a conventional bike’s front wheel, temporarily converting it into a stuff-haulin’ tricycle.  Read More

Ziggle is a ride-on car for kids which utilizes the force of lateral friction to propel it...

The lifestyle choices parents make easily filter down to their children. If you drive everywhere and do very little in the way of exercise then the chances are your kids will grow up to do the same thing. However, walking is boring, and it's an activity that some kids will avoid if they can possibly help it. Which is where Ziggle may just provide a solution to parents ready to tear their hair out over their offspring's lethargy.  Read More

The pedal-powered Popemobile concept from Yannick Read of the ETA

Shortly before that time of the year traditionally reserved for all manner of tomfoolery, the UK's Environmental Transport Association (ETA) released details of a pedal-powered Popemobile concept that many immediately assumed to be a joke. Gizmag caught up with its designer, Yannick Read of Hornster and Bond Bike fame, to find out if the environmentally-friendly pontiff-carrier proposal is genuine or fake.  Read More

The FireFly recumbent tricycle outfitted with an LED-lit dome

If there are two things cyclists have to worry about, they would be the weather and making sure cars can see them. That's why the designers at GeoSpace Studio set about building a vehicle to resolve both issues. The FireFly is a recumbent tricycle outfitted with an LED-lit dome that keeps the rider visible and protected from the elements.  Read More

The Tricycle House opens like an accordion to offer more space

The idea of living life on the road in an RV can be appealing. Unfortunately, most RV’s aren’t very environmentally friendly, nor are they self-sufficient. However, the Tricycle House isn’t like most RV’s, as it relies on pedal power to move between destinations, and boasts several pieces of clever folding furniture to provide those much-needed home comforts.  Read More

With its rear swivel wheels locked, the ONDA Cycle steers just like any other three-wheele...

Three years ago, Joe Hadzicki of Revolution Enterprises and son Tyler (both from San Diego) started designing their perfect trike. Seven constantly-evolving designs and at least two prototypes later, and the ONDA Cycle is finally ready for launch. If you want to be dull and boring, this rather odd-looking, recumbent-like three-wheeler can be steered using the handlebars ... but if you really want to have some fun, the rear swivel wheels can be unlocked and controlled with a handle at the back for spins, drifting and tight, precision turns.  Read More

Danish design studio N55, in collaboration with German designer Till Wolfer, has created a series of open-source human-powered vehicle designs that can be built at home using basic tools and materials. Dubbed XYZ Spaceframe Vehicles, the models incorporate weather-resistant and lightweight frames that are made using standard aluminum tubes. Those tubes are assembled together using simple stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts. “Unlike the singular load-bearing tube seen in traditional bike structures, the main structure is an orthogonal spaceframe of standard aluminum tubes,” says N55.  Read More

The Tripod is an electric-assist velomobile made in Portland, Oregon

Velomobiles are certainly a unique form of transportation. They’re essentially human-powered recumbent tricycles, with a full-body fairing to increase their aerodynamics and protect against inclement weather. Most of them are made in Europe, which unfortunately adds to their already-steep prices for non-European buyers ... so, when we spied the made-in-the-USA Tripod velomobile in Portland, Oregon earlier this month, we took note. He’s a quick look at some of the things that make it special.  Read More
