Panasonic's robotic bed/wheelchair first to earn global safety certification

There's a lot of talk about Japan's rapidly aging society, and how it is expected to literally place a heavy burden on the island nation's caregivers. Among the many projected problems is a smaller pool of health care workers amidst a growing tide of elderly who require around-the-clock care. With that kind of workload, nurses are more likely to injure themselves or their patients when lifting them into and out of bed. Various solutions are in the works, such as a giant lifting robot that looks like a teddy bear, but few are as practical as Panasonic's Resyone robotic bed. Open House unfolds to become a 100-seat open-air theater

American conceptual artist Matthew Mazzotta has joined forces with the Coleman Center for the Arts and local residents from York, Alabama to convert an old abandoned house into a transformable open-air theater. Dubbed, Open House, the structure which looks like a simple wooden home, actually features separate sections that fold open to create a unique outdoor space, catering for 100 patrons. Read More

Well, apparently Takara Tomy took notice of it after videos of the robot went viral last year and is developing its own mass-market version under the official Transformers banner.
