Resurrecting the name of Belgium's first home-grown motorcycle company, Saroléa racing is gearing up for this year's TT Zero electric motorcycle race at the Isle of Man. Round One of the World Superbike Championship, like all major sporting events, is a giant production. There might be a few dozen top level competitors getting all the media attention, but the event couldn't happen at all without the expertise and energy of hundreds and hundreds of support staff, volunteers and of course, the fans that are the lifeblood of any sport. 180 kg Lotus C-01 motorcycle to use 200 hp 1200cc V-twin

Lotus Motorcycles has released the first images of its new lightweight C-01 superbike, produced by a collaboration of motorsport veterans led by Dr Colin Kolles of Kodewa, with support from the Holzer Group, all under license from Group Lotus plc. The bodywork has been crafted by Daniel Simon while the bike's geometry and construction is the work of Holzer, a company that has had a hand in designing several Moto One and Moto Two world championship motorcycles, not to mention F1 and LMP2 cars. So apart from the name that carries so much gravitas, the team behind it comes with serious credibility too. The 180 kg Lotus C-01 is powered by a 200 hp, 75 degree v-twin Rotax motor similar to that used in the KTM RC8R superbike.Read More

Voxan Wattman claims to be "most powerful electric motorcycle in the world"

A new claimant for the title of "most powerful electric motorcycle in the world" was presented to admirers at the Paris Motor Show on Monday. The Voxan Wattman electric motorcycle, with 150 kW (200 hp) of power at full tilt, can pull the 350 kg (770 lb) bike from 0 to 160 km/h (0-100 mph) in 5.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph). With styling based on a scorpion's exoskeleton, this dramatic new entry is searching for its place in the sun. Read More

Phillip Island gets a $3 million facelift

Australia’s motorsport mecca is in the midst of its first major facelift in 14 years, with the Island’s hallowed race circuit being treated this week to a $3 million resurface to create the smoothest, fastest race track in the world. The huge undertaking will see 5,000 tonnes of specially blended asphalt mix laid at a temperature of ~160ºF in a process that shows it's not just high-tech bikes that make the world of international motorcycle racing tick.Read More

KTM's 1290 Superduke R prototype – the best power-to-weight ratio ever?

The most exciting exhibit at either of the recent major international motorcycle shows (Intermot in Germany or EICMA in Italy) was the first showing of the KTM 1290 Superduke R prototype – a super-lightweight, trellis-framed, naked bike powered by a 1290cc version of the RC8R V-twin, complete with drive-by-wire, lots of (disengageable) electronic rider assistance, lashings of carbon fiber, new prototype WP suspension at both ends and the promise of a production version within 12 months.
