SEAT rolls-out first plug-in hybrid and all-electric EV prototypes
SEAT is the latest automobile manufacturer set to make the move to electric vehicle production. With a view to mass-producing its first electric vehicles in the next five years, this week the company presented not one, but two prototype electric vehicles. The first is a plug-in hybrid called the Leo TwinDrive Ecomotive plug-in hybrid, while the second is an all-electric car known as the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive. Read More
SEAT unveiling IBE electric sports coupe concept
At last year’s Geneva Auto Show, Spanish auto maker SEAT displayed its hybrid Leon Ecomotive Twin Drive project, which the company said was its first step towards a pure electric production car. Just one year later it came through with a progress report, in the form of an EV concept sports car, the IBE. A new version of the IBE, featuring further-developed design, technology and interior, will be unveiled this weekend at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. SEAT displayed its first electric vehicle prototype in January of this year to Spain’s Minister of Industry who recently promised one million EVs on Spanish roads by 2012. SEAT has now announced the 74.3mpg TDI powered Leon Ecomotive at the Geneva Auto Show 2009. Read More
SEAT, the Spanish arm of the Volkswagen Group, will launch its new Exeo upper medium sector saloon in April, along with some interesting technologies designed to keep it cool in the Spanish sun. The optional solar sunroof uses mini solar panels embedded in the glass to generate electricity which powers the car’s ventilation system, even when the ignition is off, drawing in cooler ambient air and significantly reducing the automotive ‘greenhouse’ effect on a hot day.
