Fifty years ago, a young, ambitious Italian farmboy by the name of Ferruccio Lamborghini decided his talent for mechanical enhancement, engineering and marketing would be better served designing high-performance automobiles. Since 1963 Lamborghini has seen its share of bad relationships and financial hardship, but has still managed to create some of the most extreme and immediately recognizable vehicles on the road today. The Lamborghini Reventón Roadster - less a car than a million Euro, 330 kmh carbon fiber s...

Lamborghini pulled the wraps off the open top version of its Reventón at the Frankfurt IAA yesterday and there was no disappointment, other than perhaps the price and production run. Each Reventón Roadster will be sold for 1.1 million Euro plus taxes and on-roads, and less than 20 will be built. Those with the money and influence to get a spot in the queue will obtain what Automobili Lamborghini regards as the “most extreme car in the history of the brand.” The 6.5 liter twelve-cylinder generates 493 kW (670 PS), catapulting the Roadster from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). Deliveries begin next month.  Read More

Perhaps not satisfied with taking on other supercars, Lamborghini pitched its Reventón against a Tornado aircraft in an acceleration race at Ghedi military airport last week... and yes, it lost, but not without a fight, and not without producing some great images. Driven by an official Lamborghini test driver, the 650 HP, 12-cylinder Reventón took the early lead on the 3000 m-long runway before being overtaken (and flown over) by the Tornado in the last few meters as it reached speeds in excess of 340 kmh (211mph).  Read More

Only 20 cars will be produced and they come with a very exclusive price tag - EUR1 million (US$1.38 million) plus taxes. Although it is based on the Murciélago LP640, the exterior design of the Reventón is completely new and combines extraordinary styling with its limited edition status and price tag to make the supercar a symbol of extreme exclusivity.  Read More
