Renault reinterprets the Alpine A110 to commemorate its 50th Birthday

It's fifty years ago since the Renault Alpine A110 Berlinette was introduced as one of the most beautiful road cars of its time, embodying light weight and sweet handling and furthering the long and successful Renault motorsport heritage by winning rallies all over the world. Not surprisingly, such a memorable automotive birthday has precipitated a very appealing concept car. The Renault Alpine A110-50, is a reinterpretation of the original Alpine's key features in a thoroughly modern way, all cloaked in stylish Alpine Blue carbon fiber bodywork, with a 400 bhp Mégane Trophy power train. All up weight is 880 kg. It seems like a recipe for a very stylish rocketship.  Read More

On display at the company’s sale in Monaco this week (May 11–12)

It's hard not to get carried away with the superlatives when writing of the art deco wheeled sculptures of Paris-based automotive couturier Giuseppe Figoni. This exquisite 1938 Talbot-Lago T23 'Goutte d'Eau' Coupe is not just a pretty face either - an almost identical car finished third in the 1938 Le Mans 24 hour race ... and it's for sale. From the studios of French coachbuilder Figoni et Falaschi, Figoni's Talbot-Lago T23 is one of just four Jeancart-style machines still in existence.  Read More

The final design for Renault's new ZOE electric passenger car has premiered in Geneva, and...

The Renault ZOE electric passenger vehicle premiered at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show represents quite a change from the concept first shown at 2009's Frankfurt Motor Show, although many of the features promised three years ago have made it into the final design. The French auto maker says that the first of its Z.E. range benefits from a battery range of up to 130 miles, a top speed of 83 miles per hour and a new onboard charger that is capable of juicing up the battery pack at any level. There are some really nice design touches and lots of spanking new technology, but the real winner for the ZOE is likely to be its attractive price point - although owners will also have to stump up a monthly hire charge for the battery.  Read More

Current world F1 champion Red Bull Racing has unveiled the car with which it will defend the title in 2012 - the Renault-powered RB8. The top five biggest lemons in history - to this point.

When the likes of Jaguar, Porsche, Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Renault and Chrysler introduce a new model series, it is equally or more reliable than the model it replaces. Right? Wrong! New information has been released this week which indicates all of the above companies have replaced major models with less reliable models in the last decade - the worst three examples were 60%, 54% and 40% more likely to break down than their predecessor.  Read More

Another glimpse of the Infiniti sports EV - based on the two angles we've seen, it seems t...

As the luxury brand of the most aggressive electric major automotive producer (Nissan-Renault), Infiniti has been hinting for some time that it would go beyond its hybrid offerings and develop an all-electric sedan and more specifically, an all-electric sports car. With its successful ties with Formula One Champions Red Bull Racing, and F1 Drivers Champion Sebastian Vettel as its Global Brand Ambassador, it was really only a matter of time. Today, we had the first glimpse of the new sports EV.  Read More

Suzuki's Q-Concept

Suzuki's Q-Concept is a narrow-track, lightweight tandem two-seater, "positioned between conventional motorcycles and cars" according to the Japanese manufacturer. Two years ago at the last Tokyo Motor Show, we did a major article and video on narrow-track vehicles, forecasting that cars would get smaller and lighter, and the Q-Concept fits the bill perfectly.  Read More

Kleenspeed's 160 mph EV-X11

The FIA, governing body of internal-combustion-engined motorsport, appears to have finally recognized the bleeding obvious (that electric vehicles will become mainstream) and is planning a high profile electric racing championship series beginning in 2013. The FIA Formula E Championship series has not been publicly framed as yet so it is not known if the series will be run at the same venues as the Formula One series but it can be expected to be held at a range of international venues and will logically serve as the first official championship for electric vehicles. Whether the series will have world championship status ...  Read More

Vettel takes his second F1 title for Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel won his second World F1 drivers championship today, and although only taking third place in the Japanese Grand Prix, he is still on track for the most dominant season in F1 history. His third place at Suzuka gave him 324 of the 375 points on offer – a stunning 86.4% of available points and still ahead of Michael Schumacher's best during his reign with Ferrari. Like most other records in F1, Vettel is once again the youngest to achieve the feat. For Red Bull Racing, it's the team's second drivers title and it is closing in on the constructors title with a lead of 130 points and just four races to go. Perhaps more ominously, the team it has assembled, and the relationship with both Infiniti and engine-suppliers Renault looks more than capable of sustaining the success.  Read More
