The Audi TT meets small crossover meets plug-in hybrid

Audi appears committed to injecting the SUV segment with added sportiness, at least insofar as concept cars are concerned. Last year, it showed an off-road supercar named the Nanuk Quattro. At this week's Beijing Motor Show, it got a little more practical in transforming its TT into an off-road-ready hybrid crossover based closely on the Allroad Shooting Brake concept from earlier this year.  Read More

The TT Ultra Concept handles better, brakes faster and is quicker to 100 km/h (62 mph) in ...

First introduced as a concept at the 1995 Frankfurt Auto Show, Audi’s mighty, yet compact TT sport-coupe has changed little since its inception. But with its war-on-weight campaign, Audi decided the already lightweight TT could use a trim. So off to the fat farm went the Ultra Quattro Concept, and when all was said and done, a 300 kg (661 lb) lighter vehicle remained.  Read More

Audi increases engine power six-fold for A1 ClubSport Quattro

The premium Audi A1 sub-compact has won a raft of awards since its launch late last year, scoring five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test and amazed journalists with its frugality of 55.4 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 119 g/km in its most humble 1.2 liter 86 PS TFSI petrol engine version. Which makes the latest version of the A1 to surface somewhat of a surprise – by shoehorning a breathed-upon 503PS, 2.5-liter, five-cylinder TFSI engine into that tiny engine bay, the A1 ClubSport Quattro suddenly boasts six times the power and a whopping 660 Nm of torque, enough to slingshot its diminutive form to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and 200 km/h in 10.9 seconds.  Read More

The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro

Until now Audi has pretty much limited hybrid technology to its concept cars such as its A1 Sportback, e-tron Spyder and metroproject quattro. That is set to change with the upcoming Q5 hybrid quattro – the company’s first hybrid model with two drive systems. Audi claims the vehicle will have power comparable to a V6 coupled with fuel consumption like that of a four-cylinder Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) turbodiesel engine vehicle.  Read More

The autonomous TTS Coupe quattro's R2D2-like antennae might one day be as visually appeali...

The age-old battle of man versus machine will move to a new arena in 2010 when Audi will begin pitting an autonomous TTS Coupe quattro against record times of some of the great driving challenges, including a likely attempt at the infamous 12.42-mile Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado, USA. The driverless Audi is from the same team that built the VW Touareg which won the first race for autonomous vehicles, the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge. The inevitable incorporation of advanced robotic technologies into our automobiles will ultimately yield a safer vehicle and it’s the thin end of the wedge – one day soon your car will not only be smarter than you are, it will also be faster and maybe even better looking.  Read More
