Porsche's 918 Spyder hybrid on track for 2013 release, now with 770 bhp and 94 mpg

Porsche's hybrid 918 Spyder is a 770 bhp supercar that can top 320 km/h, accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under three seconds and lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in seven minutes 22 seconds. The carbon fiber 918 Spyder will hit showrooms before the end of 2013, with pricing beginning at US$850,000. It's all standard fare for a supercar except for one small thing - its fuel consumption of 3.0 l/100 km (94 mpg). Read More

The Super SUV class emerges - four Super-SUVs break cover in one day

You could be excused for having missed the birth of a new class of automobile - the super SUV. Eterniti coined the term for its 620 hp supercar based on the Porsche Cayenne, but in short order a number of other contenders with massive horsepower have emerged. The 600hp Lamborghini Urus, Maserati Kubang and Bentley EXP 9 have emerged. The Bentley EXP 9 gets three-quarters of a Bugatti Veyron engine in the form of a twin-turbo 6.0 liter W12 (with 800 Nm of torque) while the Kubang is odds-on to contain a Ferrari 450 bhp V8. 620 bhp Eterniti Hemera super-SUV production engineering prototype in Beijing

Boutique luxury carmaker Eterniti Motors is a London-based manufacturer of prestige performance automobiles. The company's first offering is named the Eterniti Artemis - a remanufactured Porsche Cayenne that will compete against the new SUVs from Bentley, Lamborghini and Maserati in the luxury SUV segment. The engineering prototype went on display today at the Auto China 2012 international motor show in Beijing. Read More

Vale Ferdinand Porsche - designer of the Porsche 911

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Grandson of the founder of Porsche, the designer of the Porsche 911, the founder of the Porsche Design studio and the architect of Porsche design culture, passed away yesterday, April 5 in Salzburg, aged 76. His design credo was that “design must be functional and functionality has to be translated visually into aesthetics, without gags that have to be explained first.” Some of his other well known statements on design include, “a coherently designed product requires no adornment; it should be enhanced by its form alone”, and “Good design should be honest.” Vale F.A. Audi's turbodiesel, electric flywheel hybrid, all-wheel drive prototype race car

Audi's newly revealed R18 e-tron quattro race car is designed to win the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hour Race. Whatsmore, the turbodiesel, electric flywheel hybrid, all-wheel drive prototype will ensure the 2012 race will be a battle of the hybrids (against Toyota's new TS030 ultracapacitor hybrid race car), and a fascinating study of new technologies under race conditions. The car uses electric motors to add 75 kW (102 bhp) of power to each front wheel, and a 375 kW (510 bhp) V6 TDI engine powers the rear wheels. The Williams Hybrid Power electric flywheel hybrid captures energy similarly to the unit Porsche used to such great effect in its GT3 R Hybrid last year with the rear axle powered conventionally, and the front wheels by electric motors. Audi calls it "the electrification of the drive" and it will be a story worth following as battle begins on the racetrack. Read More

It's a lot easier to keep a customer than to get a new one, at least that's how the sales force maxim goes. So what then does the newly released J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Customer Retention Study say about the automotive brands and their ability to sell the same customer another car. For starters, something incredibly positive is happening at Hyundai - just two years ago, Hyundai was below the industry average in customer retention - now the Korean brand has flown past Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Infiniti and Acura to become the stickiest brand in the business.
