The Pentax X70 joins the Compact Megazoom class of 2009

Joining the megazoom compact class of 2009, already featuring the 26x Olympus SP590, 24x Nikon CoolPix P90, 24x Kodak Z980 and newly announced 20x Sony Cyber-shot HX1 is the 24x Pentax X70. Now they all have small bodies, optical zooms that run from wide angle to super-telephoto (26mm to 624mm equivalent in this case) and more than enough pixels (12 MPX in this case), the technology is being shoehorned in (high-speed burst mode that captures 11 images per second, face recognition and more) to enable camera klutzes to produce near pro quality at the ridiculously reasonable cost of USD400. It ships next month.  Read More

Super-Secret Spy Lens for your SLR

Designed for capturing raw, natural images without the subject being aware that they are being photographed (and ruining that elusive photo-realism), or lets face it, for just plain snooping around, the Super-Secret Spy Lens allows you to take shots at right angles to the camera lens. Working like a periscope for your SLR, the lens adaptor also rotates through 360 degrees so you can snap subjects above and below you as well as to the left or right, all while you appear to be shooting directly in front.  Read More

PENTAX’s new US$300 Optio V20 is designed to help overcome one of happysnapping’s greatest problems – blinking subjects. Pentax Compact A10 with 8 MPX, shake reduction and x3 zoom

January 13, 2006 The price-performance ratio of compact cameras continues to skyrocket as it seeks to maintain the performance gap to that of the fast-approaching camera phone, and the bar was raised higher at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show last week when Pentax announced the Optio A10 and E10 compact digital cameras. Though the E10 offers a six effective megapixel CCD and a 3X optical zoom lens, it was the new flagship compact A10 which really impressed.
