It looks like a simple frisbee, but it's much more

Over the years, we've seen survival gear in all shapes and sizes – traditional kits, shovels, paracord bracelets, concept snowboards, winter jackets and more. A frisbee-like saucer is one format that we haven't seen ... up until today. The LifeDisc isn't focused on fire, cutlery or water purification, the way other survival kits and gizmos are. Its shape is designed for winding fishing line and paracord around a waterproof survival container.  Read More

Those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere may be mourning the end of summer, and with it the diminishing prospects of enjoying much warmth until next year. However, the Invisible Garden House, by Danish designer Simon Hjermind Jensen, may offer an opportunity to receive a regular dose of Vitamin D, even well into the colder seasons.  Read More

The GoSun Stove uses parabolic mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto a glass tube and cook ...

The recently unveiled GoSun Stove is a portable, tube-shaped solar oven that's billed as being powerful enough to cook a full meal, even on cloudy days. Much like the Solar Kettle, this solar cooker uses parabolic mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto a glass cylinder and cook the contents inside. But while the Solar Kettle was built for heating up beverages and boiled eggs, the GoSun Stove sports a slightly larger set of mirrors and a stainless steel tray for food, allowing it to act as a portable convection oven for baking, frying, boiling, and more.  Read More

Vehicles of sport

Back in February, Gizmag scoured the many halls of the ISPO Munich 2013 sports show for the latest and greatest in action, outdoor and snow sports gear. Recently we did the same at one of ISPO's American counterparts: Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Along the way we found numerous interesting, innovative and downright odd vehicles, vessels and machines designed for those specialist, sporty uses where standard equipment just doesn't cut it. With the summer winding down toward cooler weather (or vice versa for our southern readers), we thought it the perfect time to share this mix of snow, street, air and water gear.  Read More
