Mixer

The Openmix mini music mixer

Budding DJs grooving on the move who are looking for a much less bulky crossfader for impromptu portable parties on the patio than the likes of the iRig MIX may soon have their wishes granted. The Openmix is billed as the world's smallest audio mixer, and crams a miniature audio crossfader into a plastic or aluminum case not much bigger than an iPod shuffle. It puts an end to the abrupt stops and starts of fixed, pre-prepared playlists by allowing anyone to smoothly mix tracks from any pair of audio source devices sporting output jacks, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops or MP3 players.  Read More

An entire set of Bartendros at a party

Hosting parties is always a good time, but when the host has to spend half of the party making drinks for everyone, it can be a real downer. A new project seeking funding on Kickstarter called the Bartendro hopes to rectify the situation by replacing the human drink mixer with a robot, much like the The Inebriator.  Read More

The Dra-gun is a drill-powered device for mixing and applying two-part liquids such as res...

Inventor William Mace used to live aboard a small boat, where he tried his best to cast and mold custom parts. If you’ve ever worked with resins or other two-part materials, however, you’ll know just how messy and involved the process can be – the two component liquids have to be poured in a precise ratio into a mixing cup, stirred thoroughly together, poured, and then the left-over mixture, cup and stir stick have to be disposed of. Instead, Mace created the Dra-gun – a power drill-mounted system that automatically mixes the liquids in the desired ratio, and that produces virtually no waste.  Read More

Apps that transform an iOS device into a portable DJ system (such as Algoriddim's djay app) have been around for a good while now, but the restricted screen space on small devices can lead to somewhat limited mixing functionality. Budding party disc jockeys can get more control from physical deck emulators like Numark's iDJ Live, but those with an appetite for real-time mixing of music stored on more than one device have now been catered for with the upcoming release of the iRig MIX from IK Multimedia. This compact mobile mixer can auto match the tempo from any type of audio source with the tunes on a connected iOS device, features an extra input for an instrument or microphone, and comes with four free music apps.  Read More

Perhaps you’ve entertained the idea of becoming a dance club DJ, but were intimidated by the thought of those expensive turntables and mixers, not to mention the logistics of lugging them around, along with stacks of LPs and/or CDs. If so, then you’re the part of the target market for Numark’s iDJ Live. The one-piece device features two turntable-like music-cueing decks, a mixer for cross-fading between tracks, and uses your own docked iDevice as its brains.  Read More

Algoriddim djay app for iOS devices

German audio software specialist Algoriddim has released its djay app for iPhone and iPad. Designed to turn an iOS device into a complete and portable DJ system, the app allows you to mix an iPod music library via a touch-turntable interface or can be set to mix automatically. It's intuitive, simple to use but deep enough for some serious djing.  Read More

The Philips Robust Collection range of kitchen appliances being demonstrated at IFA

Our crew on the ground at IFA, though not exactly master chefs, still know a good kitchen appliance when they see one. And they were very impressed by a demo of the Philips Robust Collection, five premium kitchen appliances fashioned from modern materials such as shockproof glass, plastics and metal die cast, with couplings made of Zytel plastic, a light metal replacement used by BMW and Mercedes for their sports cars. The result is a blender, food processor, hand blender, juicer and mixer that Philips says proved virtually unbreakable in drop tests, as well as looking good in any modern kitchen.  Read More
