LG has demonstrated a new Laser TV at CES which uses an Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector to display an image on a 100-inch screen at a distance of less than two feet. Despite the close distance and large size, the system delivers a full 1080p image with a 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and LG hopes the set-up will eliminate some of the issues posed by typical home theater projectors that require a much larger space to function. Today at CES 2013, LG showed off the first Smart TV game that uses Dual Play 3D technology. While the tech itself might not be new, seeing it implemented directly into a smart TV is something we've never seen before. Read More
With stunning picture quality and ultrathin panels, the OLED TVs trundled out at trade shows by major manufacturers over the past few years have had many salivating. LG's latest Magic Remote can understand natural language
At first glance, it may seem that the guy sat in front of the television is having a heated argument with his TV remote, but closer inspection will probably reveal that he's just trying to get the voice recognition feature to recognize his dialect. LG and Sony have both introduced Ultra high definition (UHD) TVs with 84-inch screens within the past three months and both are priced at US$20K or more. These monster televisions have 16:9 aspect ratio UHD screens (3840 x 2160 pixels). There are no more than a few hundred sets available worldwide, but even if a Christmas miracle happens and an 84-inch UHDTV makes its way under your tree, finding a video source to match the screen resolution could prove to be the real challenge. SEAD identifies the most energy-efficient TVs available
Size, resolution, the underlying display technology, 3D or not 3D, contrast ratio: these are all things one considers before splashing out on a television. How many of us think about energy consumption? The SEAD Initiative (Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment) is laboring under the apprehension that however many it is, it's not enough. What's it doing about? It's launching Global Efficiency Medal awards to very visibly identify the most energy-efficient flat-panel TVs (and other electronics), and last week it announced its winners ahead of an awards ceremony in January. These regions are also hot and sticky, making LG's introduction of an air conditioner that it claims actively repels mosquitoes as it keeps the house cool a seemingly obvious blending of technologies. Android phones often compete on "bigger, better, faster, stronger." This has led to giant phones with blazing-fast processors. Sharp displays are also the norm, but HTC is gambling that you'll want even more. The Droid DNA has the same resolution as a 1080p TV. Is it really a breakthrough, or are you better off with the Nexus 4? Read More
