In addition to being a world fashion capital, a theme seen throughout the Paris Motor Show
was that France is a breeding ground for adventure. The French Alps have served as an incubator for some of today's craziest sports, such as wingsuit flying and speed flying. Perhaps that's why the Paris show had the largest serving of adventure vehicles that we've seen since Overland Expo
. Special edition 4x4s, burlified mini SUVs and concepts straight-out named "Adventure" were seen throughout the show's various halls.
Land Rover has taken the wraps off its 2015 Discovery Sport, a compact version of the popular "Disco" that is aimed at the family market. The premium compact SUV features a shorter wheelbase combined with a seven-seat capacity and standard all-wheel drive and takes a few design cues from the Vision concept
in an attempt to shed it’s country image for something with a bit more urban cred.
Last month, Land Rover claimed a new record
for a production SUV as its 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR ran the 20.8 km (13 mile) Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring in eight minutes and 14 seconds. Now the company has lifted the bonnet and revealed the specs behind how a two and a half tonne Chelsea tractor is able to do a lap time like a stabbed rat.

If verified, this time is equal to one set by a BMW Alpina B3 Biturbo Coupé in December of 2008, and represents a mighty fast lap time for any car, let alone an SUV.

Land Rover’s been dropping hints about its new Discovery Vision
concept in the run up to the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Now before 200 VIP guests, the company has taken the lid off what turns out to be a design template for the new Discovery line as well as a showcase for the technologies that may end up in Land Rovers of the future. The debut aboard the USS Intrepid Air and Space Museum in New York City included a scale model of the Virgin Galactic spacecraft SpaceShipTwo
as part of Land Rover’s new partnership with the space tourism company.
Land Rover teased its new Discovery Vision
concept last week in the run-up to its début at 2014 New York International Auto Show on April 16, and now the car maker reveals a bit more about the Vision – or rather, less. That’s because the latest tease demonstrates a new technology that uses cameras and heads-up displays to make the front of the car “invisible” to the driver.
