Though most multimedia phones tend to have external speakers for, albeit meagerly, pumping out tunes for other people’s benefit, they tend to be less common on MP3 players as companies prioritize slim and pocket-friendly designs. The most notable "hybrid" to take a chance in this market is Samsung’s K5, which offers a clever slide-out design to keep things relatively compact while allowing for the widest possible stereo image. Pantone has been the industry standard in color for many years, but carrying around a Pantone book full of color palettes hasn’t always been practical. And they’re expensive books to lose, too. Apple gives iPod touch a speed and storage boost – but no camera

Apple kept the announcements coming at its Rock and Roll event with an updated iPod touch lineup. The entry-level 8GB touch has received a price drop, while the previous 16GB and 32GB models have been replaced with 32GB and 64GB versions that are selling for the same prices as their predecessors. The two larger capacity models have also received a bump in performance that Apple says will be up to 50 percent faster than the previous touch and support for OpenGL ES 2.0, which suggests the new models are sporting the same CPU as the iPhone 3GS. Belkin has announced the TuneCast Auto Live, a new FM transmitter for the iPhone that is one of the first devices to take advantage of OS 3.0’s support for third party peripherals. Authorities alerted to iPhone card-counting application

Looks like crafty iPhone app developers have come up with another handy use for the iPhone. The Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting that California gaming authorities are warning their Nevada neighbors to be on the lookout for gamblers using blackjack card-counting programs such as Card Counter or A Blackjack Card Counter that run on either the iPhone or iPod Touch. iPhone gets turn-by-turn GPS navigation via xGPS jailbreak app

While TomTom has had a functional turn-by-turn GPS application working in the lab since June last year, the "complicated issues" preventing a launch that Apple mentioned a couple of weeks later obviously haven't been sorted out - but that hasn't stopped the xGPS team from bringing turn-by-turn to the iPhone and iPod touch in the form of a jailbreak app. Read More
