Like it or not, we're now living in a digital world, with physical media of all types being superseded by new formats. This inevitably leads to us all being left with a physical legacy, and transferring the content that makes up this legacy to digital formats is often a tiresome chore. One possible quick and easy solution to transforming photos from physical to digital is iPICS2GO, a new device from ION Audio that literally turns your iPhone into a scanner. Read More
We've previously featured a number of devices that give players a low latency interface to the world of device-based digital tone manipulation, but each one poses something of a risk for those who like to rock out. To reduce the chances of a connected tablet or laptop flying across the room as you twirl the guitar around your body Malmsteen-style, Ion Audio has developed a wireless system called Guitarlink Air that severs the physical link between device and instrument common to products like Apogee's JAM or the AcousticLink from Alesis. Ion Audio is to add a new handheld controller for iPhone and iPod Touch to its iCade mini arcade line, along with two scaled-down versions of its original controller cabinet for the iPad, which started life as an April Fool prank. Currently on show at the company's booth at CES 2012, the iCade Mobile, iCade Core and iCade Jr. offer mobile gamers the chance to play it old school using physical buttons and a four-way controller or joystick instead of the touchscreen. We recently took a look at the iPerform3D online guitar lessons for those looking to unleash their inner Hendrix, but if you’re thinking tinkling the ivories might be more your style then Ion Audio’s Piano Apprentice could be worth a look - at least for a basic introduction to playing the piano. Following the Simon school of music instruction, the Piano Apprentice features a 25-note keyboard that docks with an iPad, iPod touch or iPhone to demonstrate how to play as the relevant keys on the device light up. Ion Audio is probably best known for creating those nifty turntables that help those of us who own vinyl records to conveniently convert them into a digital file format. Now, the company has used its digital conversion know-how to create a device that can scan a 200-page paper book and convert it into e-Reader format in 15 minutes. The Book Saver Book Scanner will allow you to quickly digitize your huge library of printed books or magazines for archiving on computer or to take on the road without weighing down your backpack or suitcase. The democratization of music is something Gizmag has been watching for some time. Just this year, we've seen software that teaches you to play guitar, drums and the piano (and you can check our music category for much more). Today at IFA 2009, we came across ION Audio's Discover DJ controller, a USD$99 product which turns any PC or Mac into a digital DJ setup. Read More

June 3, 2008 The ION AUDIO LP DOCK has all the hallmarks of a killer gizmo in our humble opinion. Firstly, it enables the direct conversion of legacy music collections you’ve paid for in 33 1/3 and 45 RPM vinyl format to iTunes and/or iPod. Throw a computer into the mix and the included software cleans up the pops and scratches and will even consult Gracenote MusicID technology to automatically retrieve album, artist and song information from the Internet, simplifying the conversion and cataloging process of your entire record collection to a few mouse clicks. It even has line level outputs and can hence add a turntable to any AV set-up. Read More
