June 7, 2007 Figures released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)
today show that Internet advertising revenues continue to skyrocket, the tech wreck of six years ago just an insignificant correction. The 2007 first quarter revenues of US$4.9 billion represent a 26 percent increase over Q1 2006 at US$3.8 billion and a 2 percent increase over Q4 2006 at US$4.8 billion. “The continued growth of online ad revenues clearly illustrates marketers’ increased comfort with the extraordinary vitality and accountability of this medium,” commented IAB President and CEO Randall Rothenberg. “It reaches consumers with an unprecedented level of efficiency and measurability that provides marketers with actionable data. And the ever-changing landscape of new platforms and technologies that enrich interactive advertising guarantees that this growth trend will continue.”
June 1, 2006 Take a look at the adjoining graph and you can see the bite which resulted from the infamous “tech-wreck” and the bullishness of the advertising market ever since. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)
yesterday announced that Internet advertising revenues reached a new record of US$3.9 billion for the first quarter of 2006, a 38 percent increase over Q1 2005 and a 6 percent increase over the traditionally strong fourth quarter figure for 2005. The continued growth of the internet is reshaping the media landscape – in the last three years internet ad revenues have surpassed cinema, outdoor, radio and magazine advertising revenues.
October 28, 2005 The Internet juggernaut continues to roll and gather pace as evidenced by the 26% growth of Advertising Revenues for the first six months of 2005 over the first half of 2004. Internet advertising revenues for the first six months of 2005 were approximately US$5.8 billion, a new record. Similarly, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is continuing to grow with an Australian chapter today being added to the existing 17 countries and pending IABs in Russia, Columbia and Brazil.
November 7, 2004 Oh no, we missed another birthday. This time it was the tenth birthday of the humble banner advert. On October 25, 1994 the first banner advert appeared on HotWired. Interestingly, it did not make news and the whole world missed it, probably because it seems to have been around longer than that. And whereas the fledgling industry of 1994 had trouble explaining what the internet was, the internet will account for 3.5% of global advertising expenditure in 2004.
The AT&T advert's slogan was "Have you ever clicked your mouse right HERE?" and the advert was created in the 468 x 60 pixel format because it suited the site's layout.
The Internet continued its resurgence following the 'tech-wreck' when the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) announced yesterday that US Internet advertising totaled an estimated US$1.745 billion in the third quarter of 2003.
