Husqvarna's Concept Baja harkens back the company's 70s heyday

Husqvarna has decided to go back to the 70s with its Concept Baja. The retro-styled bike had its first debut at the 2012 Progressive International Motorcycle Show in New York last Friday as part of the exhibition's 12-city tour across the U.S. Taking its name from the famous desert race that's been run each year for more than four decades, the Concept Baja radiates a 70s vintage vibe with a design that echoes the company's off-road models from that era, but with a modern touch most immediately evident by an LED-array headlight built into the front number plate and an LED instrument display built into the crossbar.  Read More

Sweden's Husqvarna Construction has announced that two of its remote-controlled demolition robots are to help with the massive clean-up operation at the site of the failed fourth reactor at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The recently-featured DXR-140 and its bigger brother - the DXR-310 - will be used in heavy demolition work such as tearing down concrete constructions and dealing with contaminated materials.  Read More

Husqvarna Concept E-go

Now here's something completely different from Husqvarna. The single-track commuter concept that the company hinted at two weeks ago has now taken shape as the Concept E-go - an extremely lightweight electric motorcycle for first time motorcyclists with slimline supermotard styling and a modest electric powerplant that's particularly suitable for urban commuting.  Read More

Husqvarna's new Nuda 900 and 900R

We've already written quite a bit about the development of Husqvarna's new Nuda 900 and 900R and the promise of the Italian (formerly Swedish) brand under Teutonic (BMW) ownership to execute new thought, but we felt that the latest release of new info on the supermoto/naked-bike crossover to debut at Frankfurt warranted an update. We already knew the engine was derived from the BMW F 800 R motor with an increase in bore and stroke giving it 898cc, but what we didn't know previously is that the crankshaft has been altered from the F 800 R's 0-degree crank offset angle to 315-degrees, creating an engine with the feel and sound of a V-twin, but with the same excellent power delivery of the parallel-twin at small throttle openings, a characteristic not normally associated with v-twins. Details have also been released on the suspension and running gear packages of both models.  Read More

BMW and Husqvarna to show electric motorcycle concepts in Frankfurt

Two of the more intriguing concepts planned for the world's largest motor show (IAA) in Frankfurt a fortnight from now will come from BMW Motorrad and sister brand Husqvarna. Almost nothing about the concepts has been disclosed other than their existence and a few cryptic words in a press release which mention an e-mobility BMW Motorrad design study and "a new idea for individual single track mobility" from Husqvarna.  Read More

The Husqvarna NUDA 900 R streetbike

If there was any doubt that the journeyman Husqvarna brand had found a permanent home, or would be reinvigorated by BMW ownership, those doubts were dispelled during the recent BMW Innovations Day program in Munich when the wraps were pulled off the new NUDA 900 R streetbike. If last year's Mille3 concept shown at EICMA hadn't pointed the way towards Husqy returning to the roads, the Nuda is a concrete design landmark that leaves no doubt about the future of a BMW Motorrad sister brand. The equation is simple: 100+ bhp with a meaty 100 Nm of torque, all in a package weighing 175 kg (386 lb) sans liquids.  Read More
