AMD Radeon HD 7970 unveiled as world's first 28nm GPU

AMD has taken the wraps of the Radeon HD 7970 graphics card. Billed as the world's fastest single GPU graphics card and the only GPU based on 28nm production technology, the new arrival pushes AMD ahead of NVIDIA in terms of miniaturization. The HD 7970 uses a new Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture that AMD says results in a 150 percent performance/sq mm jump over the previous 40nm-based generation, is compatible with PCI Express 3.0 and features 3GB of GDDR5 memory and 925MHz engine clock. Not too long ago, we were all salivating at the release of NVIDIA's GTX 580 graphics card and scrambling to make the most of the world's fastest Direct X GPU. Now AMD has bounced back with the announcement that its new Radeon HD 6990 card has beaten NVIDIA's 3DMark 11 performance score in industry standard benchmark testing for a single graphics card. AMD says that its new powerhouse GPU is able to automatically unlock higher clock speeds, features technology aimed at giving gamers the best possible visual experience, and supports a number of different display options, including expanding the field of view over five monitors with Eyefinity technology. ASUS Republic of Gamers came out in force at CeBIT 2011 to launch some new additions to its gaming range. On show were some new notebooks, a couple of motherboards, graphics cards, a 3D monitor, a router and some headsets. Features of note include a wide-viewing-angle, glasses-free 3D experience from one of the notebooks, XONAR audio and 802.11n on a Black Edition mainboard, and a Wireless-N router that can support simultaneous connections for lag-free, online gaming. MSI introduces low noise, low heat N480GTX Twin Frozr II graphics card

In spite of sporting a couple of cooling fans whirring away, MSI claims that its new N480GTX Twin Frozr II graphics card offers quiet performance as well as low operating temperatures. The card features thicker heat pipes, military-grade components and support for the latest NVIDIA video technologies. Based on the new PCI Express 2.0 bus architecture, it also benefits from 1536MB of high-speed onboard graphics memory, a couple of DVI ports and an HDMI port. Read More
In what is fast becoming a bit of a trend for ASUS, the company has leaked the first images of a new in-development monster graphics card called MARS 2. The card will feature dual-Fermi graphics processors, potential triple monitor stereoscopic capabilities and will no doubt require some delicate power supply calculations before it even gets near to a motherboard.
