TomTom today previewed a new generation of navigation devices designed to offer real-time services to drivers. The first example of the new generation is the GO LIVE 1000, which uses an ARM 11 500 Mhz processor and comes with several new features, including the ability to run downloadable third party apps, IQ Routes™ which applies historical travel time data to calculate the fastest route and HD Traffic™ which gives accurate real time traffic information for all major and secondary roads. The unit's software and service delivery platform have been optimised for rapid integration of third party applications and easy localisation to match the needs of specific markets or applications. German camera specialist Leica has announced its first compact superzoom in the form of the 12.1 megapixel V-Lux 20. The new addition to the Leica family not only benefits from 12x optical zoom and 720p HD video capabilities but also features built-in GPS tagging for recording the exact geographical location of each snap taken. Garmin has announced slick new additions to its nüvi line of personal navigation devices with its 3700 series. Available in three models - the nüvi 3760T, nüvi 3750 and flagship nüvi 3790T, the slender units are just 9mm thick and feature a 800 x 480 pixel, 4.3” WVGA glass display with capacitive multi-touch functionality that lets users zoom in and out of maps by double-tapping or pinching. There was a time when budget actioncams (or helmetcams, or whatever you want to call them) were limited to just one or two models. Portable navigation company Mio has announced a new product at CeBIT 2010 which is set to further blur the boundaries between GPS navigation, entertainment and Internet devices - the Mio Moov V780. Not only will users be able to find their way around but with the flick of a finger they'll be able to scroll through photos, watch high definition videos or play their favorite music. Garmin has introduced the newest member of its Zumo family of motorcycle-oriented GPS navigators, the Zumo 220. Coming on the heels of the CES 2010 announcement of the top-of-line Zumo 665 with XM capability, the Zumo 220 rounds out the series offering key features at a more affordable price. The new unit sports a touchscreen interface in a rugged, waterproof, and fuel-proof housing. Navigation features include text-to-speech directions, “lane assist” guidance, and on-road/off-road modes. Although it is less fully-featured compared to the Zumo 550 or 665, the Zumo 220 does feature Bluetooth headset capability, a MicroSD memory card slot, and improved battery life. Read More
