By - August 14, 2014 9 Pictures
We've seen a plethora of accessories for the GoPro Hero actioncam cropping up over the past few years, including everything from stabilizers to drones to helmet-mounted poles. Surprisingly, though, except for scuba-specific models, there's been almost nothing in the way of lights. Australian bike gadget manufacturer Knog recently set out to fill that void, by releasing its Qudos Action light earlier this month. I recently had a chance to get my hands on the thing, and liked what it had to offer. Read More

By - July 31, 2014 2 Pictures
Despite the ever-increasing popularity of the GoPro Hero actioncam, there's still not even one model of the darn thing that has a viewfinder. Users can buy a $70 add-on LCD screen, although if they're using a newer Hero, they can also just utilize its Wi-Fi connectivity to view the camera's output on their existing smartphone. The GoRigIt case makes it easier to take this approach, but joining the phone to the GoPro. Read More

It makes for some impressive aerial footage of the person, but also requires a fair bit of piloting skill. Additionally, if you buy one of those drones, you'll end up shooting other people doing those things – what if you want footage of yourself? Well, that's where the HEXO+ hexacopter comes in. It autonomously flies above its user, shooting video of them as they do their thing. Read More

By - April 7, 2014 4 Pictures
While there may now be a slew of compact camcorder stabilizing rigs on the market, it was Tiffen that offered the first such product three years ago, in the form of its Steadicam Smoothee. Late last year, the company began shipping its Steadicam Curve – a device that's similar to the Smoothee, but optimized for use with GoPro Hero actioncams. I recently had the chance to try the Curve out for myself, to see how good it really is at smoothin' out the shakes. Read More

GoPhone turns the iPhone into a hard-mounted GoPro viewfinder

Despite the incredible popularity of the GoPro Hero actioncam, it still lacks one very basic feature – a viewfinder. You can use your smartphone as a remote viewfinder via the camera's Wi-Fi signal, but for users who want to get hand-held shots, that involves holding onto two devices. That's where the GoPhone comes into the picture. Read More

Sub-$500 Pocket Drone folds for transport and carries a GoPro

By - January 14, 2014 6 Pictures
The original DJI Phantom quadcopter is now priced below US$500, and it's designed to carry a GoPro camera. However, while the copter could conceivably be stuffed into a backpack, doing so might be a little ... awkward. That's why the guys at San Diego-based AirDroids created the Pocket Drone. It squeaks in under the $500 mark and is made to carry a GoPro, but it also folds down for easy transport. What's more, its battery runtime is about twice that of the Phantom. Read More
