Stainless steel and aluminum are used to offer a more durable build

The GoPro HD Hero 2 comes with its own waterproof case, but that case wasn't tough enough for Marc Ellis. So, he built his own Hero housing made out of aluminum and stainless steel. We can't verify that it's more rugged in the field, but it definitely gives the GoPro a tougher, no-nonsense look.  Read More

You can take that GoPro HERO actioncam of yours, and stick it someplace inaccessible ... after which, you’ll be able to remotely start and stop recording, if you’ve got GoPro’s new Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Combo Kit. The company officially released the system today.  Read More

One of the great features of the GoPro HERO actioncam is the fact that it is waterproof down to 197 feet (60 meters). Unfortunately, should you lose hold of your non-floating camera in the water ... well, even if it survives its trip down to the bottom of the ocean/lake, you’ll likely never see it again. That’s why The Bobber exists.  Read More

GoPro has just released the Dive Housing, which reportedly allows HERO actioncam users to ...

Although you may have seen plenty of underwater videos shot using the GoPro HERO actioncam, its lens was never really designed for underwater videography – as we previously illustrated in a video report, the footage sometimes looks a little fuzzy. As of today, however, would-be Jaques Cousteaus can now purchase a dive-specific GoPro housing, that promises sharp images.  Read More

The HEADCASE PRO, sprouting a few attachments

Despite the continuous onslaught of competitors, the GoPro HERO is still quite likely the world’s most popular actioncam – this is no doubt due in part to its tough polycarbonate housing, for which a wide variety of aftermarket mounting accessories are available. Portland, Oregon-based videographer/inventor Jim Clark, however, has some issues with that housing. He managed to break his when his HERO fell off of a car, and he also feels that it could use some more attachment points for things like lights or tripod heads. The result: his heavy-duty aluminum HEADCASE PRO and HEADGEAR housings for GoPro.  Read More

GoPro has just released its newest actioncam, the HD HERO2

If you've been holding off on getting a GoPro HD HERO actioncam ... well, you were right to wait. Today, the California-based company announced the release of its HD HERO2 camera, which is claimed to be "2X as Powerful in Every Way." More specifically, it has an 11-megapixel image sensor (as opposed to the regular camera's 5 mp), along with a new processor that is said to be twice as fast, and a redesigned lens that GoPro claims is both twice as sharp and capable of a complete 170-degree field of view even in widescreen 1080p mode. There's also good news for consumers who think the existing HD HERO is all the camera they need.  Read More

XSories has released a silicone cover and an underwater lens (not pictured) for the GoPro ...

GoPro’s HERO HD is certainly one of the most popular actioncams on the market, perhaps more so now that its long-awaited LCD viewfinder/playback screen is available. As is the case with other digital cameras, however, the glare of direct sunlight can make it difficult to see what’s on that screen. Also, as we noted in an actioncam video comparison, the HERO’s underwater shots tend to be a little on the soft-focus side. Well, two new products from camera gizmo-maker XSories are designed to address both of these situations.  Read More

GoPro has just released its Battery BacPac, which allows a second lithium-ion battery to b...

Just last month, GoPro introduced the long-awaited LCD screen module for its viewfinder-less HERO HD actioncam. At the time, the company stated that the module was the first in a series of BacPac accessories, designed to extend the capabilities of the 1080p high-def camera. Now, the next of those accessories has been released, in the form of the Battery BacPac. It allows an included 1100mAh lithium-ion battery to be mounted onto the back of the camera (which already has its own identical battery), potentially doubling its run time.  Read More

GoPro has just released an add-on LCD screen module for its HERO HD actioncam

GoPro’s HERO HD actioncam has been probably the best-known and most widely-used actioncam for a few years now, but it’s always had one limitation – the lack of an LCD screen. While the camera’s 170-degree fisheye lens is sufficient to capture most of the action, there are always those situations where users want to check exactly how the shot is lined up, or that their recorded footage worked out the way they hoped it would. The company’s response was a promised add-on LCD screen module, although HERO owners have been waiting some time for that gizmo to show itself. Well, they need wait no longer, as GoPro announced today that its LCD BacPac is available for purchase.  Read More

GoPro 3D HERO Expansion kit on display at CES 2011

GoPro is getting into 3D with its 1080p HD HERO actioncam range, but it's taking a slightly different approach. Instead of jamming two lenses and two sensors into one unit, the company has opted to build a special casing that joins two of the existing 2D cameras at the hip. The 3D HERO Expansion kit will be compatible with all 1080p HD HERO cameras and is expected to hit shelves in February at a cost of US$100.  Read More
