Bentley is taking the "speed" in this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed quite literally. The ultra-luxury marque announced at the Goodwood Press Day this week that it plans to bring a trio of its fastest cars to the hill. This past January, the Lola-Drayson B12/69EV was unveiled to the public. Created by Drayson Racing Technologies and the Lola Cars group, it promised to be the fastest electric-powered racing car in the world. While there was certainly plenty of action on the track at last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, that was far from the only automotive eye-candy on hand. Attractions off the tarmac included a display of Alain Prost's Formula 1 drives, a beautiful collection of luxury automobiles celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, exhibitions from almost every major auto manufacturer, action sports demonstrations, rally cars, motorcycles, racers from yesteryear ... and of course, a smorgasbord of supercars. Bowler, a British manufacturer of rally raid cars, is well known for its performance off-roaders. What it's not known for is street-legal cars. That all changes with the new EXR S, a road-engineered version of its EXR rally car. The car is the first fruits of a new partnership agreement with Land Rover. Read More
Infiniti introduced the high-tech Emerg-e hybrid supercar at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. At the time, the company didn't confirm that it plans to produce the car, but definitely didn't close the door on the possibility. The latest news is that the first working prototype of the electrifying concept car will be unveiled at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. with F1 racer Mark Webber behind the wheel. Each year the Goodwood Festival of Speed hosts an auction by Bonhams, and due to the importance of the event and the unique crowd it draws, the best come out to play. This year there are two stand-outs going under the hammer: the first is the 1912 Rolls-Royce Double Pullman Limousine (estimated GBP2,000,000/US$3,147,000) which was reproduced in the popular Corgi Classics series of widely circulated die-cast toy cars, the second being the personal 1938 Type 57C of the Ettore Bugatti, lovingly built for Le Patron by his staff. The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off at the end of the month and one of the vehicles on our "must-see" list is the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) Mono. Making its public debut at the event, the BAC Mono is a single-seat, road-legal (in Europe), high-performance sports car that looks to just have the edge on its KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom trackday rivals with the ability to go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 170 mph (273.6 km/h).
