Gigabyte gets all touchy-feely and swively with new touchscreen netbook tablet

Gigabyte’s T1028 manages to straddle a few categories with its netbook size and specs, touchscreen capabilities and rotating screen, which gives the netbook a tablet look and feel. The new model sports a 10.1-inch WSVA 1024 x 600 display, while under the hood beats an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, Intel 945GSE graphics chipset, 1GB RAM (expandable to 2GB) and 160GB SATA HDD. Field Tested: Lenovo's dual screen Thinkpad W700ds

Lenovo's W700ds has an ingeniously concealed second screen built into the lid that "pops out" via a spring loaded mechanism. There's also a laundry list of features including a built in webcam, fingerprint scanner, 5 USB ports, a FireWire port, a DisplayLink port, both VGA and DVI graphics, big bright 17" 1920x1200 display, 2 ExpressCard slots, an SD card reader, and couple of features that are rather specific to high end photography and graphics design. First International Computer's CW001 netbook is destined for US shores after arriving in the FCC database on the 31st of December last year. The 10.4-inch, Atom-based netbook is noteworthy for finding room for both a DVD-RW optical drive and an ExpressCard/34 slot - which appears to be a first for this form factor. Read More

ExpressCard brings high-bandwidth (2.5Gbps) PCI Express connectivity to laptops, and allows you to connect a range of audio interfaces, hard drives, wireless broadband modems, and (if you buy an adapter) FireWire 800/eSATA devices. So far, three manufacturers have managed to squeeze an ExpressCard/34 port into their 9/10" netbooks, opening up a range of possibilities for the road warrior. Read More
