Legendary French automaker Citroen began resurrecting its venerable DS series a few years ago - the original line debuted in the 1950s, had a two-decade-long run, and was once voted "the most beautiful car of all time" - and is now introducing three more new takes on the DS into China, one of the largest and fastest-growing markets ever. The second coming of the DS began in 2009 with the DS3 and has since been followed by the DS4 and DS5. The Open Camera Controller being used to create High Dynamic Range Imaging

Photographers looking to create High Dynamic Range images in the field have traditionally been faced with heavy equipment and the lack of user controls offered by digital SLR cameras. HDR Labs took a Nintendo DS gaming device, created a custom camera interface, loaded on some innovative imaging apps and the Open Camera Control Project was born. The open source, DIY controller puts powerful image processing control right in the palm of your hand.  Read More

Nintendo has announced that it intends to launch a 3D version of its DS handheld console

The rumor mill has started again. Does it ever stop? But this time (for once) Apple is not at the center of it - this time it's the turn of Nintendo to bathe in the blinding light of speculation and is, to a large extent, the company's own doing. In what has to be amongst the shortest releases I have ever seen, Nintendo has announced the forthcoming availability of a new portable gaming device where users will be able to enjoy 3D effects without glasses.  Read More

But as the iPod touch, the iPhone, and now the iPad have challenged the gaming giant, Nintendo is expected to respond aggressively with a new console in 2010. Reports are already starting to roll in that some developers in Japan have received early versions of the new Nintendo hardware.  Read More

It will, however, have the same resolution as the previous DSi. Nintendo says the battery can last around four-five hours in extensive use mode and approximately 13-17 hours in energy-saving mode. These are around 25 percent improvements over previous models.  Read More

All-round EV - Zero DS

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero has followed up the success of its X and S ranges with the Zero DS – a combination dirt/street machine the company says can “handle any surface you can throw at it.” This new option for those looking to ditch their noise-polluting, emission-spewing internal combustion bikes looks very similar to the S model, but has a bigger front wheel (17 inch), chunkier tread on the back tire and a nobby on the front, specially-designed wheels and suspension and a distinctive naked round headlamp without the windshield found on the S.  Read More

Fraunhofer develops technology for the bonded aircraft

An aircraft is held together by hundreds of thousands of rivets. Fully automatic machines install rivet holes and rivets with precision in numerous materials. A new hybrid technology combines this mechanical joining technique with adhesive bonding. The lighter an aircraft is, the less fuel it consumes. Given the need to cut carbon dioxide emissions, this is a key aspect of materials research. Aircraft manufacturers are therefore pinning their hopes on particularly lightweight construction materials. These include not only lightweight metals, but also fiber composite plastics, particularly carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs). Whenever two CFRP components have to be joined together, this has so far been accomplished primarily by riveting.  Read More
