The LapTouch concept is targeted at the creative community (Image: Amir Labidi)

Einstein famously maintained that a cluttered desk is a sign of a brilliant mind. However, for many modern designers the desk is not just messy but is also jammed with a mandatory array of PCs, laptops, screens, tablets, and more. French designer Amir Labidi has developed a laptop concept dubbed the “LapTouch” for the creative community, with the specific aim of consolidating design functions and reducing desktop congestion.  Read More

Vizio has entered the PC market with its 24- and 27-inch All-in-One PCs

Although they’ve been around for decades, the all-in-one form factor has really been embraced by PC manufacturers in recent years. On the back of recent releases from the likes of HP, Dell and Sony, Vizio, a company better known for producing TVs, has joined the party with a couple of all-in-one units in 24- and 27-inch screen sizes that mark the company's entry into the PC market.  Read More

When space is at a premium or you're just not a big fan of cable clutter, there's nothing quite as attractive as an all-in-one desktop computer and, as we discovered when reviewing HP's Omni 27 model recently, bigger is most assuredly beautiful. Dell's latest slim and stylish addition to its premium XPS family is also its largest ever all-in-one computer. The XPS One 27 features the latest third generation Intel Core processors, HDD or SSD/HDD hybrid storage options and boasts some impressive built-in audio capabilities, too.  Read More

Ubuntu for Android aims to provide a full desktop experience

Smartphones and the technology that powers them continue to evolve at an incredible rate. Year after year, phones have continued to close the power gap that separates them with their traditional PC counterparts. Taking advantage of the latest in mobile processors, Canonical is set to release Ubuntu for Android. The OS effectively turns your phone into a full Ubuntu desktop computer when docked and connected to a monitor, meaning the day your smartphone could act as your primary computer is drawing nearer.  Read More

HP's Omni 27 is the company's first 27-inch all-in-one model

When we reviewed the HP TouchSmart 610-1030a all-in-one last year, we questioned just how useful most users would find the touch interface on a desktop PC. Thankfully HP has provided a non-touch alternative for those not likely to find much benefit from (and aren’t willing to pay extra for) a touchscreen-packing desktop unit. The Omni 27 Quad is also the company’s first 27-inch all-in-one model ... read on for our hands-on review.  Read More

A Kinect-driven prototype desktop environment by the Microsoft Applied Sciences Group allo...

A see-through screen, digital 3D objects manipulated by hand, perspective adjustments according to the user's viewing angle - these are the core features of a prototype computer desktop user interface created by Microsoft's Applied Sciences Group. The prototype uses a "unique" Samsung transparent OLED display through which the user can see their own hands to manipulate 3D objects which appear to be behind the screen.  Read More

The HP TouchSmart 610-1030a

While touch displays have become standard on mobile devices, touch displays for desktop PCs - ushered in by HP on its first TouchSmart back in 2007 - haven't really set the world on fire. So what do touchscreens bring to the desktop environment? HP had continued to build on its its TouchSmart line, so we decided to see if its latest offering, the TouchSmart 610-1030a, provides a compelling reason to ditch the traditional keyboard and mouse - at least for some users.  Read More

Lenovo has revealed the first in a new family of thin and powerful all-in-one desktop comp...

The inclusion of a new all-in-one desktop computer in Lenovo's Live Quarterly Update has prompted the company to come clean about the first of its new Edge family. With up to quad-core Intel Core i7 configurations available and at just 3.18-inches thick including the frame stand at the rear (or 2.5-inches thin if you care not to consider such trifles), the ThinkCentre Edge 91z is a might more powerful and a good deal slimmer than an iMac or, perhaps more relevantly, the company's own ThinkCentre M70z. Lenovo's "Do Machine" has been earmarked for small businesses and users looking to save some table-top space, and will be available in a number of configurations.  Read More

Lenovo's ThinkCenter M70z is a multi-touch Windows 7 all-in-one desktop

As a longtime fan of the ThinkPad line, I have to admit to being more than a little curious about Lenovo's new ThinkCenter M70z just released in Japan. More than a little clunky-looking, this all-in-one desktop PC is marketed to Enterprise customers and runs Windows 7. With a multi-touch display, the M70z invites you to lay your hands all over it. Think of it as iMac's heftier, more promiscuous cousin.  Read More

MSI's Wind Top AE2420 3D all-in-one PC

In April, NEC announced plans to release a 3D all-in-one (AIO) desktop PC sometime this year. They were probably hoping to lay claim to being the first company to bring such a product to the market but they’ve been beaten to the punch by MSI, who is set to release its Wind Top AE2420 3D AIO PC that also boasts a touchscreen and is also the first AIO PC to feature USB 3.0 ports. Sporting a 24-inch Full HD (1080p) multi-touch display comprising a 120Hz LED panel, the AE2420 3D comes with one pair of rechargeable wireless active shutter glasses and 2D to 3D conversion capabilities.  Read More
