Sony announces the DSLR-esque A3000 mirrorless camera

Sony has announced the latest addition to its Alpha line-up of DSLR-like cameras the Alpha A3000. But while previous devices like the A99 and A57 weren't technically DSLRs because they use translucent mirror technology, the A3000 goes one further by doing away with the mirror altogether. Also announced is the NEX-5T, another mirrorless camera from Sony which packs NFC wireless connectivity into a slim body.Read More

Sony debuts its very own HD action cam

It teased it via blog and previewed it at the Outdoor Retailer show, but Sony saved the full detailing of its new HDR-AS15 Action Cam for this week's IFA show. The company is hoping to win the hearts of skiers, skaters, bikers and other adrenaline hounds with full HD recording with multiple slow motion modes, integrated Wi-Fi capabilities, and dive-ready waterproof casing. New Cyber-shots with big zoom announced

Sony has announced a couple of superzoom additions to its Cyber-shot camera range. Both the compact and the DSLR-like models can record full high definition movies, are GPS-enabled and have the ability to generate 3D stills without requiring the now familiar dual lens setup seen in other cameras. They both offer autofocus speeds comparable to digital SLRs and borrow some advanced technology from the company's Handycam camcorders.Read More

Carl Zeiss introduces dedicated cine lenses for Canon and Nikon DSLRs

With the trend for digital SLRs to include additional video capture it was only a matter of time before dedicated prime and zoom cine lenses were offered to hybrid photographers and videographers. At the NAB Show in Las Vegas this week, Carl Zeiss introduced an entire new range of cine lenses, set for launch in June. Nokia unveils N86 8-megapixel cameraphone with Carl Zeiss optics

It looks like Nokia has pulled out all the stops in delivering a potentially paradigm shifting N86 cameraphone with a camera that they claim has SLR-like optics and is good enough to replace your current compact digital one. With 8GB of internal storage, and a lens system from Carl Zeiss, this device can capture still images at 8 megapixels, as well as 640x480 video 30 frames per second. The camera has a F2.4 aperture (so it's able to handle low light conditions) and includes a high intensity dual LED flash. Nokia is also using the internal GPS in the device to geo-tag all the photos.Read More
