A team of engineers, mathematicians, and computer scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA are developing a robotic system for electric cars that can independently find its way around unknown spaces, navigating around obstacles in order to find its goal. It is hoped that it will soon be capable of finding a parking space or charging station and parking there, safely without a single scratch. Read More

After a positive reaction to the MSO 650S Coupe Concept shown in China earlier this year, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has announced that it will make available 50 bespoke examples of its exotic 650S sports car in both coupe and spider versions. Replete with many styling cues from the concept – such as the prominent front splitter, air intakes, side blades and rear diffuser – the first production MSO 650S will make its debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The first ever 3D Printed Car Design Challenge has been run and won with Strati, a design by Michele Anoé of Italy, chosen from a field of over 200 entries submitted by contestants from more than 30 countries. As well as winning a $5000 cash prize for his efforts from the organizers, Local Motors, Michele's concept will provide the most influence for a full-size 3D prototype to be printed at the International Manufacturing Technology Show this September in Chicago, Illinois.
